Game Day

Snacks

This is myself in my scrubs getting ready to watch the big game.

The sport which I do like to watch, of course, is hockey. However, no matter how important this game is, the snacks will make or break the experience. The main food which I personally do prefer is an extra ham and pineapple pizza with barbeque sauce. This will follow a huge box of barbeque wings and a huge cookie, five to ten people can share.

The preparation of this event is more important than the event itself. First of all, I would prepare the chips and dip. This includes three huge bags of different chips, which are the Lays brand. Then three different kinds of dips will be selected to be placed by the three bags of chips. These snacks are to be placed on the coffee table in front of our television screen, which the game will be shown on.

During the last sixty minutes before the guests arrive, I always place my order by phone to Pizza Hut. I usually do order from Pizza Hut because they have the best quality of Pizza. The order usually does show up around minutes later. My guests do show up within the next five minutes to fifteen minutes.

By the time the Pizzaman from Pizza Hut arrives, I always have my guests all seated, waiting to watch the big game while munching on chips and dipping them into the dips sitting by these bags of chips. The hockey game begins with the group getting pretty excited as the puck drops. The pizza boxes and wings are placed on the coffee table where the snacks are. The guests quickly help themselves to the snacks as they hoot and encourage their favourite team on. Now, I will remind all of you that it does not actually influence that game's outcome. This is merely the entertainment for the guests, which has really no bearing on how the game will turn out.

The room would suddenly break out in a huge round of applause as one of the hockey players broke loose from the group racing towards the hockey net of the opposite team. The player hesitated, then passed it over to another team player as he did a slap shot towards the goalie. Then the red lights behind him began to flash showing the audience that a goal had been achieved. The hooting and yelling and high fiving that went on were so incredible. There was not one guest who was eating a snack at that moment. Then the group went back to chatting and eating as nothing had actually happened. Then the other team did the same thing however, instead of cheering, there was a lot of booing. No one was eating the snacks at that time however, there was only a lot of yelling and the mood was of disappointment going on especially when the red lights flashed at the wrong end of the rink. This went back and forth for the whole time this event was going on. Then as quickly as this event started, the event had ended. The final score was displayed on the screen.

The game was over, and all of the food had been consumed, the place always seemed to be in a huge mess. I do remember when the Oilers won the Stanley Cup for the fifth time. The hooting and the celebrating was a lot of noise which could have caused the Police to come for a noise complaint. However, no matter how much work that this event caused, it was worth it in terms of creating memories that would last for a lifetime.

In life, certain events are merely to have us humans create memories. These are memories that will help us in the senior section of our lives to get through when we are not able to have such events. We as humans do use food as a comfort and as a connection to one another. As a nurse's aide, I have heard the stories from my residents of the great sports parties that their friends and they had. The food was a huge part of the story since it gave a connection to these people. When many of these people have long left this earth, this is how we get over the loss of their friendships.
