Everyday Heroes

What Changed?

As humans we have a tendency to do anything to save ourselves; to survive or adapt to our surroundings. No one fights for their lives until it's threatened. Who's to say we can't fight for others in the same way we would fight for ourselves? During pandemic I saw many people panic to find means of survival in the comfort of their own homes. How they ran out of basic necessities for the greed of someone else. People have been trying to take care of themselves first, forgetting that we live in one planet and the only reason we have made it as far as we have is with people coming together and helping. We saw what great kindness people can be possessed with having when it comes to times in need.

We watch these videos of "restoring my faith in humanity", of people giving things away without expecting anything in return. We would be lying if we said we didn't enjoy them even a little, because if I'm being honest my eyes definitely sweat. Its not because I am sad someone is giving away, but because its joyful to see that no matter what we are going through we are willing to help those in need. Not just help monetarily but caring those that have anxiety staying in or those comforting others starting with symptoms of PTSD.

During this pandemic everyone is grieving on a different beat, some of us have lost family members or had panic attacks for losing your job not knowing what the future holds. we applaud those heroes who are working day and night trying to keep us safe and healthy but our mental stability our comforts are being torn from the inside out. We need to be there for each other, we can not get through this alone.

People are scared, feel like they are dreaming, feel as if none of this is real. If you are one of those know that I am with you in spirit, do not be afraid to reach out to someone for help. Show compassion and empathy because we have all been through struggles and we pray for someone to save us, maybe its not about being saved but about being understood.

Not everyone is used to asking for help or being loved, but that does not mean we shouldn't. Growing up I had a mother and grandma who smothered us with so much love that my siblings and I thought it was normal. I see families who don't like being in the same room as some of their own and I see how in that situation you would feel alone in dire need of affection and attention. No family is perfect and if you don't feel like you can talk to them about your mental stability or how you fear what the future holds, the good news is we have the ability to talk to friends on social media or to find something to release added stress.

So who are the everyday heroes? Everyone who is willing to show compassion, kindness, understanding, and love to those that do not ask for it but as humans we can discern when common courtesy is needed in a situation. Life has gotten harder but it does not mean our hearts should too. Seek a way to help people whether they need a shoulder to cry and ears to listen or if you can help with shopping for basic necessities or help someone laugh. We can get through this, together.

What has changed? Everything. From how we live our daily lives to even the things we already did at home. Choose to be an everyday hero, because one person can start a chain reaction.
