Can a relationship survive without the date nights and holidays abroad?

This whole self isolation and lock down period has certainly thrown life off balance , in more ways than one causing, uncertainty about the future. This future could potentially be uncertain for anyone in a relationship. Predictions have been made about a baby boom and increased number of divorces. What about couples who had future plans, new relationships and existing ones with flaws?

For couples who had a dream wedding booked, perhaps abroad, this will certainly put those plans on hold. This means cancelling venues, travel plans even for wedding guests. The wedding postponement date is unpredictable. However is this an opportunity to evaluate the relationship and consider whether the relationship was ready for such a commitment. The reasoning behind tying the knot could also be looked at. Was the big lavish wedding about the couple or their family? Some cultures are still of that belief that you have not made it in life without putting a ring on it.

What about couples who were making plans to move into together and may have even purchased a place together. This self isolation period is amazing for reflection and re evaluating priorities. It will certainly allow for a lot of “me” time of pleasing oneself to an extent and maybe even realising that independence is something worth cherishing for a bit longer.

For couples who already live together and were looking at the next step of marriage ,this may bring the realisation that maybe marriage is not necessary. If it is not broken why fix it.

What about troublesome in laws? For couples who live with their in laws this could potentially result in more family feuds, possibly even leading to divorce. However without living under the same roof ,in laws can be toxic. Terms like "outlaws" and the various jokes about in laws exist for a reason.Looking at the positive side maybe there will be less scope for in laws to interfere in relationships now. This is could be the perfect excuse to social distance from some in laws. It may not be that simple in some cases ,where very extreme measures may need to be taken depending on living personal circumstances.

What about relationships that just started out or were already attempting to thrive against the odds like a long distance relationship. Maybe people finally found the courage to ask that love interest on a date which could either lead to unrequited love or maybe put on hold.

For relationships that were already unhappy or drawing to an end this could be a very unsettling time time. Couples who were looking at splitting up may potentially be stuck with each other for a while. Being stuck at home twenty four seven with a partner can make you either appreciate them or resent them. A person who is single may appreciate their independence even more or regret not asking that special someone out on a date.

Like nearly everything, dating and sustaining a relationship can potentially continue through digital advancements. For existing relationships this means some contact can be sustained. However for relationships that were just beginning or people trying it out for the first time there are dangers of being catfished. These months of waiting could lead to self evaluation about what we really want or need from a relationship. Online can lead to miscommunication and misinterpretation as sometimes the tone of voice and body language cannot be gauged.

There are also predictions of a baby boom during the isolation period. If this is something that is really not desired, ensure Durex is on the list when it comes to shopping for essentials. With the current situation with prescriptions and GP surgeries it is advisable not to wait until you are down to your last contraceptive pill before requesting another prescription.

What will happen about cheating partners in this situation? The cheating could potentially move online but with a stronger chance of getting caught. Unfortunately if someone wants to cheat they find a way. However it could also highlight to some couples that maybe the other party in the relationship is not the only problem and the relationship was already flawed. If a relationship already lacked trust where the other party felt insecure at their partner even looking at someone else, this could highlight how unstable the relationship is.

Even the most stable relationship in the world could be tested during this lock down time. It can bring couples closer together, absence can make the heart grow fonder or the more pessimistic predictions. Couples who socialised a lot or went on holiday will find themselves having to be contended within the four walls, with limits on being outdoors. The dinner and movie dates will now move to the living room.

This crisis has made the future in general very unpredictable but as per all the advice given, stay safe whether it is online, using contraception, ensures you stay protected. Jokes aside on this matter sometimes very extreme measures need to be taken. Emergency services such as the police are still in operation and some law firms are still working from home.If anybody is in danger because of their domestic situations always seek legal advice and involve the police if necessary. These services are still in operation to keep people safe, so utilise them if necessary never suffer in silence. Nobody knows where this situation will end up but whether the relationship is positive or negative it will be an eye opening time.
