Nigerian singer Ayra Starr is one of the most influential women in music right now. At the very young age of 21, Ayra Starr has already carved out a niche for herself and is a very self assured woman with a unique sound, personality, and sense of style. One of the major things, in fact the signature thing about Ayra Starr's fashion brand, is her short skirts. Ayra Starr is often found rocking her short skirt and that singular outfit choice, especially here in Nigeria, has become very synonymous with the singer.

However, as much as people love Ayra's short skirts, there have been a lot of thought pieces, claims, and opinions about why she wears them. One thing people say is that she wears the short skirts to bring attention to herself. Some say she does it to attract rich men. The reasons people give have been so many. However, in a new interview, Ayra Starr finally clears it all up and explains once and for all why she likes wearing her short skirts, and if she does it to attract men. Here's what Ayra Starr said.

Speaking in a new interview about if she wears her short skirts to attract the attention of men, Ayra Starr said:

AYRA STARR: I’m an artiste to the core, and I want my style, my hair, my music, to represent how I feel. I don’t really care about aesthetics, it’s more about how I feel. I’m not really bothered about the male gaze, female gaze, or anybody’s gaze for that matter, except my own. I’ve always had a mind of my own. Growing up in different places, in different cultures, has shaped my mind. And in spite of all these influences, I’m still myself. I wrote “Asé” when I was 15 — I had no business writing that song. So that gives you a glimpse of the kind of mindset I had at a young age.
