I think it's time to give a shout-out and pause of reflection to all of the unsung heroes that supported others during the Cornonavirsus pandemic and the lockdowns periods.

You know who I mean, the people that gave out the toilet rolls instead of taking them. The shop keepers that supplied hand sanitiser and didn't hike the prices up. The person who posted random notes of support through the letterboxes of strangers.

I don't know about you but during the first lockdown, we struggled to get food. There was barely anything on the shelves and no slots left for home delivery. I was at a loss at how I was going to feed my family and parents.

Then I heard about a wholesaler that normally only supplied to schools. The company owner was now offering support to people in need of food. Since the schools were closed they had started to deliver to homes in the local area. I got in contact with them for help.

The very next day they were delivering a box of fresh fruit and veg to my parents at a pretty good price, but not just that they went above and beyond with a few extra bits and bobs too, such as tomatoes, lettuce, and a whole bag of mushrooms.

Also, in the box was a letter of thanks... to us! For supporting their business during such a difficult time. It made me realise that we were all in this together. By them helping us, we were also supporting a family business.

I saw a community coming together, to support each other through one of the darkest times since the worldwide wars. Neighbors shared food and checked in with each other and every Thursday evening we took to the doorsteps to clap for the National Health Service (NHS).

This leads me on to the key workers who risked their own health every day, such as doctors, nurses, paramedics, veterans, vaccinators, and volunteers to police officers, bin collectors, teachers, carers, delivery drivers, shop workers, and transport drivers to name a but few.

We all know people that have helped in some way or another, the people that did this without seeking recognition, but due to the kindness of their own hearts in order to keep the community moving forwards.

The strange thing was It wasn't like the movies, as when the pandemic first hit people were not fighting for TVs but loo rolls, pasta, and flour! The shop keepers who stepped in to try to keep the peace, whilst suffering abuse and even physical violence, just as my faith in the human race dwindled...

I started to hear stories of a teacher that delivered free school meals to dozens of students every day, or the lady that made dinners to feed all the elderly people in her neighborhood. The most hearting warming story for me came from Italy. The whole town came together, from their balconies and front doors to sing a song, banishing isolation through the power of music.

Finally, there are the doctors, nurses, teachers, veterans, and trained medics who came out of retirement to put their skills back to good use. Not to forget the designers and programmers who updated the technology that enabled us to connect with each other digitally whilst being apart. And the people responsible for updating this at lightning speeds to become more user-friendly!

To all of the people who risked their own wellbeing day after day for others, thank you, unsung heroes, of the pandemic, you, my friends are awesome 👏
