"It's so hard to choose! I've already finished my postgraduate degree, should I continue to improve my education or not? I've received a few good offers, should I work or continue my studies?"

I believe this is what many people are ranking during the graduation season, and the two choices mean two very different lives.

In or drove their competitiveness, many people will take the postgraduate examination after graduating from university, and after graduating from postgraduate, they start to take the doctoral examination, and in the continuous promotion, the age becomes older and older, and they always feel somehow disconnected from the society.

After graduating from postgraduate school, you stand at the "fork in the road" in your life, do you want to pursue further studies or enter the workplace?

My friend Xiao Zhang is one of them. When I was in university, I always heard people say that a postgraduate degree will give you more choices when you are employed and the probability of being hired by large enterprises will be greatly increased.

This sentence is always reminding Zhang, as an undergraduate in this highly competitive society is too competitive, many companies simply do not recognize the students who graduated as undergraduates, he wasted no time studying for the exam, but the good work does not disappoint - successfully landed.

Now Zhang has been studying at the school where he took the exam for more than a year, he will soon graduate and now he is particularly confused, although his education is much stronger than the original, there is a higher degree waiting for him - that is, a doctorate, whether he wants to read a doctorate? This has left him very confused.

Not only is Zhang confused, but many postgraduates are torn between whether to do a Ph.D. or not ...... To solve this confusion, you first have to understand what the difference is between doing a Ph.D. and working.

What are the differences between choosing to pursue a Ph.D. and working directly? There are pros and cons to weighing up

Graduation

The first point: the level of knowledge is different and Ph.D. students are more competitive in the employment

The doctoral degree is a process of transforming into a butterfly. At this time, your knowledge level will be improved faster and your knowledge reserve will be improved qualitatively.

After graduation, Ph.D. students are social elites, and their quality has been improved in the process of studying for a Ph.D. The competitiveness of students looking for a job after studying for a Ph.D. is very strong, and it can be said that a Ph.D. can find a job with good treatment and high social status after graduation if nothing happens.

In contrast, the competitiveness of postgraduate students in employment is not as strong as that of PhDs. In future work, the cognitive level and learning of many postgraduates are also a great distance from that of PhDs, who have a higher level of knowledge and cognitive ability.

Point 2: Postgraduates who are directly employed have rich social experience and more work experience

①Postgraduates who choose direct employment have already started to struggle in society when they are still studying for their Ph.D. In this time of struggle, although some of the students are not well paid at the beginning, through their efforts and excellent strength, after a period of struggle, they can become the best in the company, not only the treatment is improved, but also will be in a higher position in the company.

This is also an advantage for postgraduates who do not continue to study for a Ph.D. Many postgraduates have become excellent leaders in their companies through their efforts and by using their time to study for a Ph.D.

There is also a very big limitation for PhDs - their age.

If you continue to study for a Ph.D. for two or three years, you will generally be around 30 years old.

▼ When a Ph.D. student is hired, companies will pay more, and companies may prefer to hire a graduate student with work experience at this point to reduce costs, and the limitations of the Ph.D. student's age are greatly reflected.

In the years to come, a postgraduate student will have three years of social experience earlier than a Ph.D. student, and will be more desirable in terms of age and work experience; but a Ph.D. student also has the advantage that his starting point is higher, and he may be seen by companies that need high-level talent, and the overall development is very good.

In the face of this dilemma, each person should analyze their situation and not make any generalizations.

So two comparisons down to say, is to read the graduate school to continue to read the blog, or to read the graduate school directly out of work, is a major problem in life, is also a crossroads of life, which depends on personal circumstances, according to their conditions and specific problems to specific analysis.

The first point: studying for a Ph.D. requires a spirit of hard work

The Ph.D. requires a lot of academic research, not necessarily a lot of knowledge, but often you need to be the first pioneer to discover and improve the gaps in the academic field.

If you are not particularly passionate about the academic research you are doing and you cannot give it your all and put a lot of effort into it, then really you should not continue with your Ph.D., it will not help you in any way, but will be a torture.

Point 2: You need to overcome the loneliness involved in studying for a PhD

There is a very overwhelming sense of isolation that you will feel during your Ph.D. As the academic work you do requires a very high level of knowledge to understand, you will have very, very few companions and confidants, many of whom will not try to understand you, and you will have to move forward step by step on your own, and very often, many people just fall at the foot of loneliness.

Point 3: Studying for a degree requires greater self-control

This means that you need to have a very high level of self-control, and if you don't, then you will be very inefficient and may not be able to finish your research.

If you can tolerate this, you can go on to do a Ph.D., as it is highly coveted for its high pay and opportunities. You can live the privileged life that others so desperately want, and this will be a fitting end to your decades of an academic career.

I hope that in the future, no matter what choice you make, you will go all out for it and make a career for yourself, so that you do not spend the rest of your life in regret. I hope that these suggestions can help you and give you some more references, and I wish all students taking the exams and continuing their Ph.D. studies, all the best!
