a new idea
let's talk about it

One day I was doom scrolling on Instagram, you know like one does, when I saw reel about a platform where couples offer up seats to their wedding for strangers to buy. It's called not a wedding crasher.
The owners say not a Wedding Crasher is basically a marketplace that connects guests with couples who have open seats at their wedding. Instead of letting those seats go unused, couples can welcome guests, offset some costs, and share their day with people who will appreciate the experience.
This sounds crazy to some, but it may sound fun to others. I've spent the last few days looking at the available weddings and the listings include all kinds of weddings.
The couple who founded this platform says it was created out of a desire to have an unique idea for date night. I think it could be for more than just a date night. It could be a way to have a unique but fun night out. Maybe even a way to get ideas for an upcoming wedding or even a way to experience how other culture celebrate weddings. Some people also never been to a wedding. I think this a good way to get that experience.
So why would couples want strangers at their weddings? Maybe they had last minute cancellations from guests. Maybe their dream venue had a minimum they had to spend but they couldn't meet. In some cases with LGBT couples they may have unsupportive family but still want to have the wedding day like everyone else. Plus with everything being so expensive that extra money from the not a crasher could help. Maybe they want to share their culture.
Plus people may want to make new connections. People are so starved for new things to do and new connections this maybe the answer. Part of me selfishly wants more couples to join the platform so I have more weddings to browse. It's also a way to spread joy. This could be good for the world. We also need to stop taking life so seriously. It also challenges the idea that weddings have to be exclusive events. It invites weddings to be more open and add to the fun.
People use the internet for everything else so this seems like the next step somehow! In a way for some this may feel like a modern social experiment. Like we're seeing how this would work in the grand scheme of things.
Yes, you may have to dodge the photographers all night, but it could be an experience that will be fun and memorable.
So why did I join? Because I'm a single lady who loves weddings. I'm also curious about seeing how others celebrate. Also I just love love stories! Hopeful romantic, I guess.
The problem I see with this is people could be so rude. But it does say on the website that rude guest could be taken off the website. Also, anyone who causes any other problems like being drunk would be taken off the site.
I could see there may be haters on the hosts and guests. They may say that people who are not of the same culture don't belong at the wedding. But to that I say people have loved ones of different cultures so this could be an edition to that.
Let's expand our circles and horizons! Let's have new experience and learn about other cultures.
Let me know in the comments would you be a host or a crasher? Would you be pissed if a loved one did this? Does this feel fun or anxiety inducing to you? What are your thoughts on this?
I decided not to post any stories about the weddings when I go. I may post what I learned just because it's not my wedding to post. I'm excited to see where this platform goes and what it does for the world and society. I wish all the couples good luck and have fun on the wedding day!
