There once was a girl who was sad and blue. For her body was all wrong it’s true. Since she was a he, in the body of a she. For years, the she who was actually a he, battled the pain within. She tried to hide him. She tried to ignore him. Then one day, as she was talking with her parents, he exploded. He was done hiding, and he was done being ignored. He was ready to show the world what he stood for.

Now a new year has begun, and he is ready to let the world know him. His name is Ricky, a twenty something year old guy. In this new year, Ricky is going to work a full forty hours a week. He plans to save twenty five percent of his income for the needed surgery to become himself. Ricky hopes that by November he will have the money to schedule a date with the doctor.

During this time, while he waits and saves, he will work to lose some weight. Ricky knows from experience that some doctors turn people away because of their weight. He isn’t going to let anything, or anyone, stand in his way of his dreams. Ricky is done being pushed around, and shoved in a closet. He isn’t taking crap from anyone anymore. Ricky is going to fight, for his right, to be himself.

Ricky has a daughter. He hopes that by following and fighting for his dreams, that she will see a hero. Someone to look up to. He has given up so much to be where he is today. Ricky has lost so many so called friends and family members. People he thought would never forsake him. Now he sits alone in his home with no one but his daughter to keep him going. He doesn’t want to let her down.

Everyday as he forces himself out of bed, he feels gross and worthless. He doesn’t see himself as he should, because the world doesn’t see him as they should. The only thing that keeps him going is the pure love his daughter shows him. There is no love like that of a child. Ricky knows this deep within his soul. He feels it with every smile. Every time his little girl says, I love you daddy. It melts his heart, to know that someone loves him for who he is.

In this new year, he has promised to write down something positive about himself every day. He doesn't want to live like this anymore. Ricky wants to love himself as much as he wants to be loved by other people. Everyone wants to be loved, and Ricky is no exception. He is done being sad and blue. That isn’t the way he wants his little girl to see him. So he will wake up each day of this year, and remind himself that someone loves him. He will fight to love himself, for the great human and parent he is.

Ricky is a hardworking man with a lot of dreams. His biggest dream yet, is to be a truck driver. His only goals in life are to live everyday as if it were his last. So he wakes up, and gives thanks for the day. Then he reads a chapter of the CDL training guide, so he can get the special license needed to follow his career goals. While this is a goal, it isn’t necessarily a new year goal. Ricky knows that he wants to wait till after his surgery to get the license. He has been dreaming of this his whole existence, but he doesn’t want to be seen as her, or she. So he is going to wait and study. By then, he should be well informed and ready to take the test. Ricky hopes all of this will produce a healthier, happier person in the new year. Ricky wishes you all good luck on your new year goals, and says to keep on pressing on. Don’t give up, and fight to be whoever you want to be because this is the only life you get.
