Give them what their heart desires.

Valentine's Day is a time to celebrate love. There are symbols we will always associate with this fun holiday: bubbly pink hearts, bouquets of red roses, and candy all wrapped up with silk ribbons and lace. These are some common offerings that we have come to expect. These familiar traditions are charming and lovable. They have become synonymous with this passionate and emotional holiday. However, there are also some contemporary gift options that might be a welcome change and genuine surprise for your loved ones.

Some couples find it difficult to shop for each other because one of them is modern and trendy, while the other has a timeless, classic style. Even if you and your partner have similar tastes, it can be hard to pinpoint that sweet spot between "timeless" and "trendy." This list will offer some inspiration to help you find that perfect, unique present that your lover deserves.

1. Chocolate

The Classic: the quintessential Valentine's chocolate usually comes in a heart-shaped box with an assortment of sweet treats. Take consideration of the preferences of the gift recipient. For example, they might have a fondness for caramel, or have a distaste for white chocolate, or have an allergy to nuts. Even so, there are many variations on the classic gift confections, with enough variety to accommodate almost any need.

Contemporary Counterpart: Hot cocoa. It's easy to get so caught up in the romantic aspects of Valentine's Day that we forget that it's still winter in February. Warm up your main squeeze with a cozy mug of high-end hot chocolate. Add some festive marshmallows and serve in a holiday themed cup. This warm beverage is perfect for sipping and snuggling together.

Everything you need in a sweet and simple package.

2. Libations

The Classic: Fine wine, such as champagne or rosé, to get your partner in a romantic mood. Good wine doesn't have to be expensive to be fancy; there are many domestic and imported brands that are affordable and good quality. The same applies to the drinking glasses. You might be surprised at the nice and reasonable glassware you might find at the supermarket. Whether your style is sleek and minimal or baroque and ornate, I've found several styles of wine glasses for as low as a dollar each.

Contemporary Counterpart: Mix 'n' match mini bar. All you need are a few glasses, a variety of shots from your liquor store, and some mixers. If you or your partner are alcohol free, you can still make mocktails with different flavors of Italian soda or sparkling cider. This activity is extra fun because you can flex your creative side as you experiment with nearly endless flavor combos.

3. Dinner

The Classic: An expensive night out at a ritzy restaurant. No matter where you decide to go, it will probably be packed for the holiday. A romantic meal shared together is one of the most popular dates for couples, and a quintessential Valentine's Day celebration.

You usually can't go wrong with lobster, but there are also vegetarian and comfort food options for your date!

Contemporary Counterpart: A home cooked, candle lit dinner for two. Your significant other will be impressed with the time and effort you put into preparing a meal. Even a simple supper that is quick and easy to make can prove to be a pleasant, satisfying gift. Make it extra special with candles, rose petals, and music.

4. Intimates

The Classic: Flirtatious nighttime wear for the bedroom. Pajamas get a sexy makeover as women drape themselves in lacy lingerie and satin robes. The men also feel luxurious in soft, silky boxers. Of course, these revealing outfits are just as fun for the one who gives the gift, as the one who gets it.

Black lace with fishnet details, ooh la la!

Contemporary Counterpart: Bath basket. Special occasions can be stressful. Your partner might appreciate a home spa, which you can easily prepare with Epsom salts, bath bombs, and bubble bath formula. You can even add candles to make the set complete. For a manly basket, use items like men's body wash, razors, unscented shea butter, and a masculine body scrubber.

Lavender is often used in aromatherapy to promote a sense of calm.

5. Plushes

The Classic: Cute and cuddly stuffed animals, such as teddy bears. A sweet plushie can be a cute and fun gift for that special person in your life. Stuffed animals feel soft to the touch, they feel warm, and they look adorable. They have the charm of innocence and wonder. The gift of a plush animal is so simple and pure.

This cute guy is quite large and sturdy for a plush!

Contemporary Counterpart: Smart and sophisticated accent pillows. Find one with a modern animal print, and it's like a grown up version of the stuffed toys we loved as kids. Best of all, this gift is practical. What could be better for those late nights spent together? You and your lover will both be comfortable and cozy with this on your sofa while you watch romantic movies, or in the bedroom while you cuddle.

This black and white rhino design is simple yet unique.

Whatever gifts you decide to present to your main squeeze, they will appreciate the thought and consideration that you put into the surprise. These ideas might help inspire you to make a special occasion that is as unique as the one you love. Happy Valentine's Day!
