The Scarecrow

Premeditated encounter..

By Maria Simões Published about a year ago 3 min read

It was a dark and stormy night, and Venus was driving home from a late shift at work. She had always been a bit scared of driving alone at night, especially in such weather, but there was no other way to get home. As she drove down the deserted road, she couldn't shake the feeling that she was being watched.

Suddenly, she saw a figure standing in the middle of the road. She slammed on the brakes, but it was too late. The car skidded and crashed into the figure, sending it flying into the darkness. Venus’s heart raced as she got out of the car to check on the person she had hit. But as she approached, she realized that it wasn't a person at all. It was a scarecrow.

Venus was relieved that she hadn't hit a person, but she couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. She got back into her car and tried to start it, but it wouldn't turn over. She tried again and again, but the car wouldn't start.

Suddenly, she heard a scratching sound coming from the roof of her car. She looked up and saw the scarecrow, now perched on top of her car, its arms extended towards her. She screamed and tried to get out of the car, but the doors were locked. She was trapped.

The scarecrow began to move, its arms flailing wildly as it tried to break through the windshield. Sarah cowered in the back seat, praying that someone would come along and save her. But there was no one around for miles. The thought of being completely alone with this creature was petrifying.

Hours passed, and the storm grew stronger. Venus was freezing and terrified, but she couldn't bring herself to leave the safety of the car. She watched in horror as the scarecrow continued to attack her car, its burlap face contorted into a sinister grin.

Just when Venus thought she couldn't take it anymore, the storm suddenly stopped. The sky cleared, and the moon shone down on her car. The scarecrow stopped its attack and slumped back down onto the roof of the car.

Venus couldn't believe her luck. She tried the ignition again, and this time the car started. She quickly put it into gear and sped away, leaving the scarecrow behind.

As she drove away, Venus couldn't help but wonder what had happened. Had the scarecrow been possessed by some malevolent force? Or was it just her imagination playing tricks on her? She would never know for sure, but one thing was certain: she would never forget the terror of that night.

Years later, Venus still shuddered at the memory of the scarecrow. She had moved on with her life, but the thought of that night always lingered in the back of her mind. She never told anyone about what had happened, afraid that they would think she was crazy.

But one day, while browsing through a local antique shop, she came across an old photograph that made her blood run cold. It was a picture of the scarecrow, taken years before. According to the shop owner, the scarecrow had been used in a ritual by a group of cultists who had practiced their dark arts in the nearby woods adoring Satan.

Venus knew then that what she had experienced was no mere hallucination. The scarecrow had been real, and it had been after her. But, why her? She left the antique shop with the photograph, vowing never to forget the horror of that night, and to always be on the lookout for any suspicious people.

Could they be integrated in her circle of family and friends? She could not shake off the feeling of premeditated intent.
