The phone was an old rotary model, olive green in color. It had been left on a small side table in the corner of Harley's bedroom, the only furnishings present when she and Darren had moved into the little house on Pine Street. Darren had enthused endlessly about it, saying he thought he could fix it up, get it working again, and Harley had agreed that would be cool, so they'd left it there, its four-pronged plug wrapped around it, as they went about the other repairs and maintainances the place needed. There were quite a few- the last owners had left in '94 and the place had nearly been condemned at two different points before the town sold it on auction for a cash price the young couple had jumped on. The place had good bones, but their love of DIY was definitely a must. Anyhow, they'd been so busy with all of that that Harley had completely forgotten about the phone- until it rang.

The Mountain
From an abandoned tape recording: You might think I’m creepy, future people who find this, but I don’t know what’s gonna happen tomorrow. And J. said she’d call me soon so that we could head up. But let me talk about what’s happening here.

The Confessional Box
It had been two months since his last confession, and his mother and father and the priests had been badgering him to go to church and confess his sins. He seldom told the truth but never said that at confession, but making an appearance and saying a few words about some unsavoury deeds usually resulted in ten "Hail Marys" or "Our Fathers", which was a bit like the lines he always got at school.

“Flying Saucers”
At first, no one believed it. No one who paid attention to the signals caught by scientists believed it. No one who heard rumours about those signals believed it. And when the press finally took the men and women in lab coats seriously, they still did not believe it. But it was true. Earth had received a signal and it was a message they could all understand: the planet had made first contact with life in outer space.
