Slasher Classic Versus Actually Scary
Nostalgia Versus Actually Scary Every Halloween; and even during other more neutral months, I love to watch the one movie I will forever call a “Classic.” That movie… is; Nightmare on Elm Street. I am talking about the original series of movies that came out in the 80’s and 90’s. In the years that they were released; they kept many children up at night and refusing to go to sleep. Many nightmares were had; the irony not escaping anyone, given the name of the movie franchise. These movies were scary! Even the predictable deaths in each movie, would still make you jump and have you looking around as you took your bathroom break and had to walk down the hallway of your own house. The effects and all out gore were groundbreaking in their day and considered impressive, though by today’s standards, they are far below the standard. Despite showing their age, and even though most of us know exactly what happens next, we still sit with our eyes glued for each scene. That is what makes it a classic. Besides, let’s face it; anything staring Robert England, is going to be creepy, if not downright scary. His portrayal of Freddy Kreuger in this franchise is easily just one of the reasons it went down in movie history and will forever be a classic.

"The Cabin In The Woods"- The Slasher Film To End All Slasher Films
Dear Vocal Readers (and horror enthusiasts), Oh, The Cabin In The Woods, what a true masterpiece it is and my personal favorite slasher flick of all time! It truly is what nightmares are made from, and if you have seen this film already you will completely understand what that means. This movie tries to get you thinking it's one thing and then flips the audience on their heads when it reveals itself to be something totally different. It is incredibly unique but it also takes from all the classic horror films we have grown to love, and yet it also makes fun of them too. We think we know the general formula for scary movies, and this film wants you to think the way you have always been taught to. Once they have you in that mindset, that's when they mess with you. A quick disclaimer before I go any further into discussing this piece of art, I will be trying my best not to spoil anything. Why would I spoil it when all of you lovely viewers could enjoy it for yourselves? So, without further ado, let us explore this legendary slasher!

Candyman: A Horror Film That Haunts Us Decades Later
We've all seen the formula at work. A few college students go somewhere they shouldn't, ignoring the warnings and rumors of a deadly killer. The killer is a deformed hulk, showcasing clearly supernatural powers. One by one he picks off the other cast members, until it's only the girl he's focused on (which just so happens to be the pretty blonde one). In the end she seems to defeat him, taking away his weapon and claiming that power for her own.

'The Shining' - Unfaithfulness Can Be Perfect. Third Place in Slasher Classics Challenge.
A few weeks ago, I basically gave my history with the horror genre, showing how my interest grew from creepy comedies like Ghostbusters to true nightmare fuel like The Devil's Advocate. However, in that collection of classics and enjoyable schlock, one film is the most important in my horror fan development and still ranks as my favorite pure horror film of all time. (I have to stress "pure" since, if horror comedies are included, Gremlins would be #1.) That is the 1980 masterpiece The Shining.

Based on the short story written by Stephen King, writer, Mike Enslin does not believe in paranormal activity. Upon receiving a mysterious postcard from the Dolphin Hotel in New York, Enslin checks into room 1408. The nightmares begin the instant he shuts the door.
