The Spooky Spectrum: Carrie White from Carrie (1976) (Part 2)
Later, we meet Carrie’s mother, Margaret, as she proselytizes a woman into joining her version of Christianity. Going against social norms, Margaret does not ask to enter the house, and stood there awkwardly until she was invited in. Margaret goes through her proselytizing like a “script” until it is interrupted by the mother offering money. Autistic people tend to follow scripts during conversations and can sometimes struggle with “reading the room.” Margaret is a great example of an undiagnosed Autistic person who was indoctrinated into a cult and suffered great trauma from her religious upbringing.

Welcome, my dear readers to The Spooky Spectrum, A Halloween Edition of Breaking the (Autistic) Code. I will be looking at Autistic-coded characters in Horror films during the month of October. It is important to note that I will definitely be discussing some disturbing topics in these essays so be cautious before continuing on. Spoilers will also be a thing as well. I am not a licensed medical professional and this series is not about diagnosing the character(s) with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This series is a personal examination of the film/TV show's plot, the character's traits and personality and how they relate to me as an Autistic woman. I would encourage my readers to seek out different perspectives on disability representation especially from BIPOC disabled creators who are often ignored in the disability discourse.

Movie Review: 'Detention'
Detention is a Taiwanese horror movie that uses the tools of the genre to tell a story of Taiwanese history and the vile threat of authoritarian dictatorship. Directed by John Hsu, Detention is based on a video game, of the same title, from Red Candle Games that was released in 2017. Both the game and the movie make use of the aesthetics of horror to tell a deeper and richer story in a clever package.

Malignant Film Review
By now, James Wan has more than proven he has the chops to crank out a big, splashy, family-friendly blockbuster like Aquaman, but many of his fans still love him best for horror masterpieces like The Conjuring and Insidious. This year’s Malignant found him going back to his roots for the first time in a while and trying his hand at another gory, over-the-top horror flick. Must-See Horror Films Part 3
The Omen trilogy ("The Omen", "Damien", "The Final Conflict") "The Omen" has a very prominent place in my life. It is one of the films that terrified me the most, for the longest time. It really bothered me, making me feel like you could trust no one, and you were safe almost nowhere. It also really built my interest in religious history, comparative religion, and the supernatural. In terms of films, this series, and "Rosemary's Baby" set the bar for what horror films could be. They didn't have to look cheap, or star no-name or has-been actors. They didn't have to be hokey or cheesy. And these films are anything but. Each starring major actors such as Gregory Peck, they depict the birth of the Anti-Christ, and his ascent to power in the world of politics. This happens through a global conspiracy of seemingly normal people in key positions - a nurse in a hospital, a nanny, the headmaster of a military school and others, all who take the steps needed to make sure Damian, the Anti-Christ, gets what he needs and where he needs to be, sometimes at the expense of others. They're also aided by Satan himself, who makes freak accidents like lightning strikes or elevator crashes happen, or his minions - animals like dogs or ravens who guard Damian and punish those who would threaten him. Along the way, as an early teen, Damian discovers who he is, and has to make the choice of accepting his destiny and power, or trying to live normally.

Till Death Film
“Till Death” is a recent released horror film directed by S.K. Dale from a screenplay written by Jason Carvey. The action thriller stars Megan Fox as Emma a wife unhappy in her marriage and struggling with her PTSD from a previous attack. The film opens up with Megan Fox’s character Emma in a steamy moment with Tom played by Aml Ameen, and ends the relationship and gives insight to the viewers that she is having an affair; and this particular night is the anniversary to her husband Mark played by Eoin Macken. As she travels to see her husband for their anniversary dinner we learn that Tom is actually Mark’s employee; when the three of them are in an elevator making small talk and pretending not to know each other.
