Creatures of fire and pain
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. They only came when summoned by augury, called forth by the screams of the dying man as I dragged his entrails across a table soaked in pain. These were not the human sized monsters that prowled the north but creatures of power, their scales scorched by hellfire and their dark eyes open to the future and the past.

From Patala
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. The reputation of the dragon amongst the nomadic peoples of this land seems to have endured since anyone had memory of the foothills, the plains, and the winds that howl through the mountains. But the emergence of dragons in the Valley has always been treated as a fairly recent thing among the myths of the region. Though, there supposedly never even was a Valley before they came. You must let me shed a little light on this tale before I continue with my own. Being as how this tale has been told around the last smoldering embers of a night’s fire all across the steppes since ancient times, I feel I’m obliged to take advantage of this dimming bed of coals between us now. It would do you well to listen.

A Shadow in the Night Rising
A Shadow in the Night Rising LITHE-WIND CROUCHED beyond the vale, studying the horror before her that had become so commonplace since the start of Metacom’s War. She waited, slowing her breath, patient though her heart pounded, implacable though her lip twitched, serene though her stomach roiled. For a long while, nothing moved but the billow of black smoke, roping blistered in knurled plumes high into the sky.

The Beast
The Beast THEY CALLED HIM THE BEAST behind his back. To his face, no one had the balls. No one. And this was something in the gulags. Once, years past, I witnessed him murdering a guard. Manacled. He strangled him, nearly severing the man’s head. So violent. So efficient. So impressive. In the midst of a gulag riot it occurred. Many suspected, but none knew, not for sure. Except me, and I did not talk. You didn’t talk. You don’t.

The New Guard
The New Guard SILENT LIGHTNING BLARES stiletto sharp as disco strobes as I stare out the window, riding shotgun. Flashes. Freezes blast past, instants frozen in time, frames of photography smashed together into a fractured comic that has no plot, no unity, no sense. A yowling pack of mangy coyotes chases a squealing cur through a bodega parking lot. A drug house next. Then an Aztec pyramid in silhouette against dim city lights. More tourist traps. Thin grizzled men, dried as jerky, dancing drunk round a rippling trash can fire. Hell … maybe the story does make sense; I don’t know, but if it does, it’s a shitty one no one wants to read.

Fear On Wings
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. That’s what the old one used to say. Milton’s grandparents specifically. They were advanced in years, being almost twice as old as my grandparents, and many people in our settlement thought that they were senile or mad, but I believed them. I suppose I was lucky since I have been able to see a fair amount of the world from a young age. My family has been taming dragons for years, though it isn’t like breaking horses I’m told. With horses, anyone could ride them after they are broken, but dragons tend to only allow the person that trained them close. We learned this the hard way when my sister tried to mount the dragon my father had successfully broken, and got her hand bitten off.

The Hunt
Chet had been preparing to take his shot for several minutes, stalking the deer with his eyes. He held up his rifle, taking great care that the weapon was aimed directly at its intended target. When he moved, he did so slightly, making sure that the deer was always at the end of his bullet's trajectory. Chet was a skilled hunter, and he knew what he needed to do to make sure that his shot was going to hit its mark. When he finally felt confident that he was going to hit the animal, he out his finger on the trigger and started to squeeze.

George MacDonald, "Lilith's Saga"
I have already talked about “At the back of the North Wind”, by the Scottish George MacDonald, written in 1871, which has Death as its protagonist. The saga of Lilith, composed around 1895 and declined in the three novels “Beyond the Mirror”, “Lilith” and “The House of Regret”, takes up the figure of the female demon associated with the wind. The protagonist of the trilogy is Lilith, from the Akkadian Lil-itu, lady of the air, a creature connected to the storm and the cat. In Mesopotamian culture, Lilith was a demon, whom the Jews borrowed during the Babylonian captivity and turned into Adam’s first wife, repudiated for refusing to obey her husband. It has always had negative characteristics, of a nocturnal, witchy, adulterous and lustful feminine. In the nineteenth century, however, with female emancipation, it comes to represent the strong woman who no longer submits to man, and it is reevaluated by modern neo-pagan cults and assimilated to the Great Mother.

The Mask
One hot afternoon in the school field of "Future Life Academy Boarding Secondary School", Students were gathered around a lying body on the field, it was a junior Student's corpse. Some students were crying, some were stunned and afraid. "Who saw what happened to her" asked the school principal, one of the students answered "she came downstairs to ease herself..., Immediately the ambulance arrived and took the girl's body to the mortuary. Students were ask to go back to thier prep hall, by the principal. The students in the prep hall was asking each other what could have happened, Suddenly the principal speaking through the public address system said "go back to your hostel and remain calm". Meanwhile in the house of the victim (the dead student), the mother who came to the school the day after the incident and threaten to sue the principal and the school, was crying her heart out as her husband console her, "my only child" she screamed. Few weeks later in school, after the sudden death of the student, everything went to normal, school activities, games, prep and all. Even the students and teachers were no more living in fear, no one even talk about the incident again. Until one faithful Friday night, the school nerd "Luna", was down the hall way, when she screamed very loud. Everyone came out including the hostel keepers, "out of shock" they were all asking her what happened, and all she could do was to point in an empty space. Everyone was confused, all of a sudden Luna fainted, water was sprinkled on her, she woke up few minutes later, "go and get some rest Luna too much reading can make one crazy" and the student laughed except Khloe, who helped her up into the hostel (Khloe was a type of person that took religion very serious). When they got to the hostel she asked Luna what she saw, but Luna was weak to speak, Khloe thought it was best to let her rest and she (Khloe) left the hostel. It was Saturday morning, everyone were doing thier laundry, some were chatting while others are writing their note. But Luna and Khloe were in the Library alone, "What did you see" Khloe asked Luna, "I can't explain, but it was a human being, a man I think on a cat mask, he was holding" she paused, "Holding what" asked Khloe, (then Luna continued) "He was holding Jenny's (the dead junior Student) head in his hand". What!!!, shouted Khloe, Hahaha came a laughter from behind them, it was Gina, the school bully and bad birch. "Nerd brain washing Khloe the weirdo", she said. you both are nothing but a waste of creation, cause I can't imagine why the two of you will be discussing on something that is is is..., I just don't know. (Gina referring to Khloe), I thought you were wise, but here you are with this freak. "Pickup your own size Gina" said Khloe, and stop eavesdropping on other people conversation, it will do you no good, she said as she drag Luna and they walk away. Everyone was done with their laundry and it was time for afternoon prep, During the prep Khloe sat close to Luna, as she (Luna) continued the discussion on what she saw, she said "the head was trying to say something to me but I was too scared". Khloe then calm her down and asked, they should pray together and they did. It night already, about time to sleep, Luna was scared of sleeping alone, so Khloe asked her to sleep with her, As they were sleeping... Part 2 in the next phase: how was the part 1?.
