The author recounts their experiences as a blind person, living in a single-story ranch house with a father who believed they had spatial awareness. They rarely fell over and only if the father or one of the visitors put something where they shouldn't. The author's father would worry when the author saw something he didn't, whether it was with his ears or by touch.

Ellie was the first visitor to the author's house, and she asked the author about her face. The author always touched her face, trying to figure out why it was so strange to them. When she asked if she could touch her face, there was always a pause. The author's father would punish him when he spoke about them, which scared him. He would take his arm and march him off, knocking him off balance and disoriented.

Every now and then, the author would be left outside, in the middle of nowhere. He told the author about the road that ran in front of the house, and the sounds I heard were cars that would kill me if they touched me. Those sounds were all I had to know where I was. I waited to hear, and then I knew which way to run back to the house.

Ellie whispered to the author that evening; she was scared. I would whisper back, but she didn't hear. The author asked the father about Ellie, but he didn't want to talk about her. He explained that they lived in a special place connected to the other world, and sometimes dead people slip through. He explained that because I couldn't see, I was able to tune in to that. He told the author that they knew I was listening when others weren't. He said I had to ignore it. Otherwise, they would latch onto me and never leave me.

Alex appeared to the author a few years later, and she told her she was lost and didn't know where she was. She pleaded for help, but the author kept quiet. The author knew what they needed to do, so they did it. They stopped bothering them for a long time. That was until Sarah appeared. Sarah didn't give the author a chance to be quiet. She asked for help, and the author stayed silent.

Sarah asked for help, and the author screamed. She said she thought her father was dying. The author did what he told her to do, and she raced out into the open air and shouted for help. She heard the sounds of cars racing along the road in front of the house. A woman returned to the author, and she asked if she could hold my hand. The woman said she was there for me.

As the noise died down, a man asked the author a question. He was a paramedic, and he had been blind since birth. The author's experiences highlight the importance of sensory perception and the dangers of being blind.

A woman is paralyzed by a man who touches her face, causing a tight pain inside her head and a bright light. The man examines her eyes, which are blind from birth. The woman tries to calm her down, but she is overwhelmed by the experience.

The man tells her to keep her eye mask on and to take it off at night. The woman has been staying with her uncle and aunt, who are shocked by her condition. The woman has been learning to read and write, but her father died of a heart attack. She finds solace in the internet and the spirit world, but is wary of knowing if someone is alive.

This is a bit confusing to me. Who is the author? Who are these people that keep coming and going? How is the author related to the father and who's father is he?
