Picnic at Lover's Lake
Desire leaves you hungry, and I was starving for a blockbuster summer romance. I had just turned seventeen, school started in two weeks, and nothing at all had happened this summer. I mean Jamie and I had seen Friday the 13th a billion times at the movie theatre. I did go to summer camp at the YMCA, and dad rented a beach house for my birthday.

Compelled Chapter 2
Arnettsville (Yukon), West Virginia 1861 Sunset on that bone chilling evening in mid January, seemed nothing out of the dull mundane. The sky alight in hues of deep purples and red as the scattered clouds moved across the hills in a slow deliberate pace. I had retired to the porch after a day of hunting with my rather ugly hound Chester. He may be long in the tooth but still enjoys a good chase now and then. The day rewarded a couple hares that my wife Malinda joyously prepared for myself, 4 children and Servant. I had only been home a few days and was already beginning to feel back at ease. Some months ago, I had been forced to join the Confederate army, which I had no business being a part of. I had to provide for my family, and my children were not quite old enough to take care of the ranch just yet. I had refused to join, and the Rebs decided it best to force me and several others down to Little Rock to be incarcerated until we were properly motivated to enlist. As luck would have it, we overpowered our gracious escorts and escaped. All going their own ways. We took all records of our capture and hid the bodies carefully. No proof or signs that we ever were transported. At least that's what we believed.

The Photographer
This man was seen but also invisible. That is a little confusing but let me explain what I mean. This man was a photographer. He was always booked for events that is how he was seen. But he was invisible since no one suspected him. He moved from a big city a few states over a few years ago. No one knew about his past that much; they just knew he always gave short answers with not much detail.

What we hide
The town was older. Even in 2019, it still looked like it was built in the 1800’s. The wonderful town of Kataraménos. A ragtag group of 19-year olds looked like the next disaster to a lot of people here. Veronica and I led the group. Walking silently beside each other, we led them to a place only we know. Rhys and Sean walked behind us. They stood 4 feet away from each other and casually talked. Gays on the downlow, I know the feeling…. Valentine followed behind them. Taking in the path we took. Making sure he knew where he was. I did not even have to look behind me to know all of that. We have only been this way for 7 years now. Friends forever. All stuck in a small go nowhere town. Veronica saw my thoughts and took the lead. My twin in every way.

Christmas Carols in the Woods
The old man had retired from the Baltimore and Ohio rail line. The engineer had been known for his love of the Christmas season. Every December he’d buy sacks of candy to toss to the children who lived in the houses along the tracks, like a rolling Santa Claus. And he would bellow Christmas carols as he worked, filling the railroad cars with cheerful song.

The Frozen Lovers
A few days before Christmas 1850, a small boat dropped anchor off Jameson’s Point near Rockland, Maine. The captain was not on board; rumor had it that he had gone ashore for a drink, and not his first, and that the schooner’s owners had fired him for his hard-drinking ways. Whatever the reason, the boat was lacking a captain.
