The Necromancer
The day was like any other day. A chill in the fall air. The Sun shining through the clouds as if optimistically providing a metaphorical glimmer of hope for the future. The future is something that Jack Martin has been thinking about a lot. How can he forget the past enough to live in the moment, so that he can forge a new future. Not one that hinges on his self inflicted condemnation from his past memories. The haunting presence of a chain around the neck and the vivid memories of realizing you are not who you claim to be. An imposter. A mockery of morality in plain sight but no one is the wiser.

Brain Freeze
“’Samuel Clemmons?” “Yes, yes, right here,” Sam stood, gathered his paperwork and followed the young nurse down a long hallway leading into the bowels of the clinic. Going through a set of locked doors, she led him to an exam room where he was asked to remove everything except his socks and briefs. She laid a crisp, sterile gown on the examining table and collected his paperwork.

Including the Kitchen Sink
The hustle of the market was nothing more than a drone so early in the morning. Paul walked around, looking at all the shops. He needed to find a good gift for his roommate before he headed home. He only had a few days left on his trip. Nothing seemed the right fit. Food was too impractical. A book was too plain. Art wasn’t his roommate’s favorite. What he liked were danger and jokes. Paul picked up and then put back on the table a snow globe, and sighing as he continued walking. He was starting to think he would never find that elusive gift. Then he came to the end of the stalls. An aging woman with bags under her eyes smiled a crookedly wry smile. Her brown hair was tied up in a messy bun.

In The Darkness
In the darkness, I waved my hands, now tied together, in front of me and could barely see them. With only a small amount of moonlight shining through an oculus above, I could see a few feet in front of me. I was lost in the corner of the walls of stone, trying to figure out how I got here. If it were not for the little black book, I would not have a clue. In my mind were the names of people and places that developed my current predicament. I saw visions of prosperity and things that could be. Twenty-thousand dollars was a lot to me. It helped to shape my understanding of how I could change my life. I was a writer and a poet. Now I cannot see my way clearly.

Blackout
Billy’d died, so he was out. Two left. I couldn’t see what’d killed him, not until I flipped him over. A deep stab wound at the base of the skull, ripped sideways to create a ragged flap. God only knows what she’d done it with. His needle was missing. Shit. Billy made four; Jane wasn’t fucking around. Back home, any needle violation was a summary decant, with a thousand compressed hours of behavior therapy thrown in to make sure you learned from the mistake.

The Dead of Night
Everything, and everyone we knew was gone, or so we thought. The sound of gun fire, and sirens in the distance, along with horrifying screams filled the streets. Damien placed his hands on both of my shoulders, looked me straight in the eyes, "just keep your eyes on me, do not let go... do not look around... don't do anything but run. Okay? I will keep you safe" he said reassuringly. Still in shock from everything that has already happened, all I could do was nod as I tried pulling myself together. My legs felt like rubber, my arms were tingling, and my head was spinning. “How did this happen? What is going on?!” I thought to myself.

Held (2020) Review
If you’re a fan of The Gallows and its sequel The Gallows: Act II, then you’re already familiar with Travis Cluff and Chris Lofing, the directing duo behind both films. Held is their latest offering, a tech-era tale of a long-standing marriage in trouble. It stars Jill Awbrey and Bart Johnson in the two leads and Rez Kempton, Zack Gold, Jener Dasilva, and Tessa Munro in small supporting roles. (Awbrey also penned the screenplay for the film.)

The Last Puzzle of Ys
I see that for every moment in time, there is a particular shaping of boundaries. Each instant is a small piece corrugated and colored such that it is uniquely identifiable from any other. Moments are qualitative, yes, but integral to their overall quality is their quantity; and there is not a single entity separable from a finite allotment. I reckon with this not as some mystical aphorism or divination of wisdom, but as a physical principle to my encountering of time and place.

One simple request
Carmen looked down at the table and pinched the bridge of her nose. Across from her, Sean sat with a look of sour disgust on his face. The math should work but neither of them is good at math is seemed. Carmen sighed and then looked at the calendar, trying to cram the time into a way that would work.

Winchester: Watching From The Window
When my husband returned home from the island for training, I explained everything in great detail about the woman next door. He thought she seemed most odd as well. We made a great effort to avoid her at all costs. If we were out in our backyard, and we heard her screen door opn, we would find our way inside. We had some friends over one night. We had dinner, and when it got late, I put the kids to bed and we hung out in the backyard. We had a fire pit that we all sat around having drinks and talking. We decided to tell them about our little friend Tommy. They seemed to believe us but dealt with it in a joking manner. They did not take it too seriously.
