From legend...

A child was walking on his way home after school when suddenly, a strange woman approached him and asked:"Do I look beautiful?"

Even though she was wearing an oversized medical mask that covered her mouth, the eyes and bridge of her nose clearly visible on her face were truly attractive. The child replied, "Yes, you are very beautiful."

"Even when I'm like this?" - the woman continued, peeling off the mask and revealing underneath a terrible red mouth slit from ear to ear.

The child was so frightened that his whole body froze, while she slowly took out a scythe hidden in her coat and cut the child to death.

Kuchisake-Onna is one of the famous and familiar urban legends in Japan. Because of her dark past and background, she chose for herself the solution of killing people, from one area to another, from one person to another. The story above is the most popular story about this woman. Her victims are almost all children, students, and sometimes adults.

How to avoid being killed by Kuchisake - Onna?

When asked: "Do I look beautiful?", don't answer too clearly like "yes" or "no" (otherwise you'll be dead) but say vaguely, for example: "50/50", "normal", or "just average". Run away while she's busy figuring out your answer.

She likes sugar candy. Throw a few at her and run away when she gets distracted by those delicious candies. Chanting the word "Pomade" three times will immobilize her for a while, so run as fast as you can.

Why "Pomade"?

People say that woman became so ugly because of the failure of a cosmetic surgery. The doctor who operated on her at the time was using hair “Pomade” but the smell was too strong, making her nauseous. Therefore, chanting the word "Pomade" three times will make her remember her trauma, causing her to lose concentration. Instead of chanting, you can throw the entire bottle of wax at her, just to be more sure. Putting wax on your hair can also affect her.

However, this is probably one of the other versions about the origin of the Kuchisake-onna torn mouth. In some other sources, the story is told: Kuchisake Onna is said to originate from a young woman who lived hundreds of years ago and was the wife or concubine of a Samurai. It is said that she is very beautiful, but also very arrogant, and often cheats on her husband. The Samurai felt like he was having an affair. He was so jealous that he attacked his wife, slit her mouth open to both ears, and screamed, "Now who else thinks you're beautiful?".

Kuchisake – Onna's appearance: She often wears a long, dark red coat, to hide the blood splatters of her victims when she kills them. She was around 20 years old, thin and her skin was pale. She always wears a medical mask, but in Japan that is not unusual because many people wear masks to avoid infecting others.

Some other rumors about her:

-Kuchisake-onna can run 100m in 3 seconds.

-She's just one of three sisters, and the other two also have torn mouths. (I smell the danger growing faster...)

-She likes the number 3. She usually appears wherever there is "3" in their name.

In 1979, this legend is said to have appeared around Nagasaki prefecture, from there spreading throughout Japan and causing crisis in many cities and towns. There have even been reports of schools forcing students to go home in small groups, under the protection of teachers. Police also increased patrols everywhere.

In 2004, South Korea had several reports of a woman wearing a red mask who chased children. In October 2007, a legal officer found records from the 1970s about the woman. also often chases children. She was hit by a car and died immediately afterwards. Her mouth was slit all the way to her ears.
