"The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window." Lexi leaned forward, and the flashlight lit up under her chin.

"It's been 3 years since Macie Clark was last seen in that cabin..." The torch shone toward the dilapidated house.

The campfire crackled as a chill breeze slapped against the flimsy tents. Archie, Lexi, and Emily's breath became a cloud of fog. Emily gazed through the forest, wide-eyed. Her ears strained from the sounds around her, and she felt a presence lurking behind the trees. Lexi continued with her story.

"Macie's room was under constant video surveillance. She was isolated from the world. Some say she's desperate for friends and lures them in by burning a candle in the window. Then once they enter, they disappear. Never to be seen again!"

Archie clapped sarcastically as a sudden shiver trailed up Emily's spine, causing her body to shudder violently. Dread grew deep within the pit of her stomach, and she could feel someone watching them.

Archie held his cellphone in the air as he searched for the reception. Emily pulled her cardigan over her shoulders as the temperature dropped dramatically. Lexi pointed to Archie's marshmallow, which was burnt to a crisp.

"You won't get any signal out here." Lexi scoffed.

Suddenly an open wifi connection appeared on Archie's phone. He connected promptly, and within moments, an anonymous video file opened. Archie's brows furrowed, and the girls gathered around to investigate what had left Archie so concerned. As their eyes locked onto the screen, static hissed loudly. They realized they were watching a girl through a night vision surveillance camera. The video skipped several segments: A girl rocked back and forth with her hospital gown wrapped over her knees. The girl paced frantically around the room, her fists thumped aggressively against the scratched-up door. Then finally, the girl screamed at the camera as a black figure crept up behind her. It wrapped around her as the video stopped, frozen on the girl's expression painted with horror.

Suddenly, a blood-curdling scream echoed from the cabin. Archie's cell flew from his hand as Emily clutched his forearm. A sinister smirk grew across Lexi's face, and her pupils dilated.

"Lexi... you're starting to scare me!" Emily knit her brows.

Without warning, Lexi threw her head back with menacing laughter before she bolted toward the cabin. Her friends had no choice but to follow her, as they'd never seen her act so insane. Archie assumed it must have been some prank and chuckled as he bellowed to Lexi, trudging up the slight embankment. Emily drew back with caution, her sight strained in the darkness. The moonlight caused shadows to move from the treetops above, allowing Emily's imagination to find fear from every slight movement in her peripheral vision. She took several deep breaths and started toward the cabin where Archie had already gone inside.

Emily stepped onto the porch and realized that everything had gone extremely quiet. The only sounds were the leaves rustling in the breeze and the occasional hoot from a nearby owl. She began to think it was all a setup as she took another step towards the front door. Suddenly, an animalistic growl began to groan and click from inside as the floorboards creaked under a heavy weight. As the unknown entity approached the main door, its breath exhaled deeply as it grew closer. Emily stumbled back as she lost her footing down the steps, her heart thumping in her chest cavity. She double took as she noticed a candle burning in the window. Everything was silent again as she saw a black figure move toward the flame, snuffing it out. Emily's intuition told her this wasn't a joke. Her friends were gone, just like Macie Clark and she wasn't prepared to find out what was lurking within those cabin walls. The only way to honestly know would be to enter the cabin and find out for yourself.
