Cabin in the woods Trailer

If you're a horror movie fan, you've probably heard of "The Cabin in the Woods." This 2012 film is a love letter to the genre, packed with references to classic horror tropes and a twist ending that subverts expectations. But what happened to the cast after the movie's release? In this article, we'll take a look at where the stars of "The Cabin in the Woods" are now.

Kristen Connolly: From Soap Operas to Political Dramas

Kristen Connolly played Dana Polk, the "Final Girl" who survives the movie's bloody events. Before "The Cabin in the Woods," Connolly was known for her work in soap operas like "Guiding Light" and "As the World Turns." She also had small parts in movies such as "Mona Lisa Smile," "Confessions of a Shopaholic," and "The Happening."

After the success of "The Cabin in the Woods," Connolly landed a recurring role on "House of Cards" as political staffer Christina Gallagher. She also starred in the CBS series "Zoo" from 2015 to 2017, played Stephanie Madoff in the 2017 TV movie "The Wizard of Lies," and currently recurs on the Paramount+ series "Evil" as Detective Mira Byrd. Most recently, she had a small role in the Hulu thriller "Deep Water," which stars Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas.

Chris Hemsworth: From "The Jock" to Hollywood Superstar

Chris Hemsworth played Curt Vaughan, the "himbo" jock who takes his friends to the cabin for a weekend getaway. At the time of the movie's release, Hemsworth had already made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Thor in a solo movie the year before, but he hadn't yet become a household name.

Since then, Hemsworth has become one of Hollywood's biggest stars, thanks in no small part to his role as Thor. He's also starred in franchises such as "The Huntsman," "Ghostbusters," and "Men in Black," and he successfully launched his own franchise with 2020's "Extraction." Hemsworth will reprise his role as Thor in the upcoming "Thor: Love and Thunder."

Anna Hutchison: From Yellow Ranger to "Scream Queen"

Anna Hutchison played Jules Louden, the promiscuous member of the cabin crew. After "The Cabin in the Woods," Hutchison became something of a "scream queen," appearing in horror/thriller films such as "Wrecker," "Sugar Mountain," and "Encounter." She also appeared in the third and final season of "Spartacus" in 2013 and recurred in "Anger Management" that year.

Most recently, Hutchison played Morag in the 2019 sequel to "Braveheart," "Robert the Bruce," which saw Angus Macfadyen reprise his role as Robert from the 1995 film.

Fran Kranz: From "The Fool" to Director

Fran Kranz played Marty Mikalski, the stoner and "fool" of the group who realizes things aren't what they seem. After "The Cabin in the Woods," Kranz continued to work in both film and TV, appearing in projects such as "The Truth About Lies," "The Dark Tower," and "Jungleland."

But Kranz's most notable post-"Cabin" achievement is his directorial debut, the 2021 drama "Mass," which he also co-wrote. The film stars Ann Dowd, Reed Birney, Jason Isaacs, and Martha Plimpton as two couples who reconnect six years after a mass shooting that took the lives of both of their sons.

Jesse Williams: From "The Scholar" to Broadway Star

Jesse Williams played Holden McCrea, the scholar who figures out that their experience is being controlled by an unseen force. At the time of the movie's release, Williams was already a veteran of TV, having played Jackson Avery on "Grey's Anatomy" for three years. He had only made his film debut in 2008's "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2."

Since then, Williams has continued to act in both TV and film, but his most notable post-"Cabin" achievement is his Broadway debut in the leading role of Darren in the revival of "Take Me Out" in 2022.

Richard Jenkins: From Villain to Award Winner

Richard Jenkins played Gary Sitterson, one of the Facility's employees who tries to kill the five friends. At the time of the movie's release, Jenkins was already an established actor with an Academy Award nomination for "The Visitor" and a SAG nomination for "Six Feet Under."

Since then, Jenkins has continued to act in both TV and film, earning another Academy Award nomination for his role in "The Shape of Water." He also won an Emmy for his role in "Olive Kitteridge" in 2014.

Bradley Whitford: From "The West Wing" to "The Handmaid's Tale"

Bradley Whitford played Steve Hadley, the technician who gets his neck bitten by a merman. At the time of the movie's release, Whitford was best known for his role as Josh Lyman on "The West Wing."

Since then, Whitford has continued to act in both TV and film, winning Emmys for his roles in "Transparent" and "The Handmaid's Tale." He's also appeared in the horror film "Get Out" and the musical-comedy series "Perfect Harmony."

Brian J. White: From "The Family Stone" to "Monogamy"

Brian J. White played Daniel Truman, a security officer in the Facility. White was best known for his roles in "The Family Stone," "The Game Plan," and "Stomp the Yard" before appearing in "The Cabin in the Woods."

Since then, White has continued to act in both TV and film, with recurring roles in series like "Scandal" and "Mistresses." He currently stars in the web series "Monogamy."

Amy Acker: From "Angel" to "The Gifted"

Amy Acker played Wendy, another employee at the Facility. Acker was already known to Joss Whedon fans for her roles on "Angel" and "Dollhouse."

Since then, Acker has continued to act in both TV and film, with roles on "Person of Interest," "The Gifted," and "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."

Sigourney Weaver: From "Alien" to "Avatar"

Sigourney Weaver had a cameo as the Director of the Facility. Weaver is one of the most iconic actresses of her generation, thanks to her roles in "Alien," "Ghostbusters," and "Avatar."

Since "The Cabin in the Woods," Weaver has continued to act in film and TV, reprising her role as Dana Barrett in both the 2016 and 2021 "Ghostbusters" films. She's also set to appear in the upcoming "Avatar" sequels.

Conclusion

"The Cabin in the Woods" may have been released in 2012, but the careers of its stars have continued to thrive in the years since. From Chris Hemsworth's rise to Hollywood superstardom to Fran Kranz's directorial debut, the cast of "The Cabin in the Woods" has gone on to achieve great things.
