Summary:

Within this film review there will be a refrain from naming characters in the film for the sake of the film's attraction, as I believe the film is immersion driven and will take on a crazy thrill journey all on its own. With that said, it's safe to say that the film "Talk to Me" heavily relies on the satire of how the protagonist and their friends (some would say associates due to the nature of the film) discover a new addiction in the thrilling experience of being possessed by a multitude of randomly selected spirits, demons, and ghouls from a porcelain hand with scribbled writings similar to a cast or a high school year book.

Prior to the start of the film, the characters in this story, like those in Wes Craven's SCREAM franchise, are fully knowledgeable and aware of their acts. In contrast to previous possession horror films of the type. The perils of overusing Satanic-like rituals are among the most important teachings in the film, as the implications of misusing totems to connect to the hereafter mount as they explore more into the paranormal.

Sometimes We Regret Things We Don't Have Control Over...

Performance and Characters:

It's as though the film drives you to believe that having a moral compass is something you should think about before stepping into this odd world. The distinctions between the living and the dead blur throughout the film, distorting the boundaries of reality. The gang is gripped by paranoia as they fear an evil presence is targeting the group's youngest and most innocent and fragile individuals.

The majority of the film focuses on our main protagonist's ability to cope with the loss of her mother, whose apparent death, while shown to be due to an overdosed suicidal case, has a shrouded hint of mystery that only a cunning detective like Batman could solve within the hundred and thirty-five minutes of screen time shown throughout. Above all, the film may leave you with more questions than answers.

"The distinctions between the living and the dead blur throughout the film, distorting the boundaries of reality."

The general ambiance of the film is incredibly dark throughout. This mood does not change in any way by the end of the film. The balance of the superb cinematography, on the other hand, genuinely helps pace the film itself. The horror experience is further heightened by the high level violence that occurs only on a few characters in the film; yet, when these terrible moments appear, they absolutely steal the show. Unlike other supernatural films, we witness how conscious the key characters are of the implications within the film's screen time, and whether for viral fame, social status, or personal motives, these individuals smoothly set off and unleashed deadly supernatural forces.

Storytelling and Writing:

Investigating what makes you want to connect with the individuals leading the dead to their demise is more powerful when deciding the best sections of "Talk to Me." However, in a world where every new IP is racing to produce a synthetic set of movies to fill out a hit-or-miss series, what happens when a movie's ending is rushed in order to set up another movie or two? The film's flaw lies solely in this aspect; why develop a picture that pushes the boundaries of its predecessors just to flop at the end in order to follow up on another feature further down the road?

While the film's pacing is adequate in its 1 hour and 35 minutes, the storyline twists in the closing scene may be detrimental in the long run. Certain significant story holes in the film will be justified only if and when a new sequel is made. What makes it worth while is how these actors are fantastic in the film "Talk to Me." The ability to thoroughly engross the audience (including myself) in the entire narrative.

Horror Elements:

They embark on a perilous quest in search of a remedy, trying to erase the dark forces they've unleashed. To escape the nightmare, our main protagonist Mia (Sophie Wilde) must confront her deepest fears while the world crumbles around her. In a spine-chilling climax, the friends face a heart-stopping battle against the malevolence they've awakened.

Mia, played brilliantly by Sophie Wilde, is at the heart of this terrifying voyage. Mia, as the main character, finds herself at the center of the otherworldly storm. The audience is captivated by Wilde's fascinating portrayal as we see her journey from an exuberant thrill-seeker to a tormented soul wrestling with guilt and terror. Mia's emotional journey connects with viewers, dragging them further into the terrifying story.

"Mia's emotional journey connects with viewers, dragging them further into the terrifying story."

Mia becomes a light of hope in the face of continuous tragedy as the group's experience worsens. To survive the terrifying assault, she must confront her greatest fears, confronting both malicious forces and her personal demons. Mia's battle becomes the emotional crux of the picture as the unsettling happenings grow and the suspense mounts, keeping us immersed in her horrific fight for survival.
