'American Horror Story': Crossover?

We know the drill; it’s that time of year again. Every year we come in partially blind and knowing very little about what’s involved when a season of everyone’s favorite anthology horror show, American Horror Story, makes its long-anticipated return at FX, but you don’t have to hold your breath for much longer. We finally know what this upcoming season is about — well, sort of — and it’s going to be a dream come true for super fans that love Season 1 and Season 3.

We are all used to this by now; we get little hints and clues revealed all summer long in a famously slow burn feed of information. Series creator Ryan Murphy just posted one clue about the next AHS installment in his latest tweet.

It could be different this year; Murphy could spill all the beans and save money on making twenty-second cryptic promotional videos for Instagram and Twitter. He also could be feeding us tons of information about this upcoming crossover season then switch it up the very last second with a whole new idea. Whatever he does, I am sure it will be gold.

"Murder House," which was AHS’s first season, was all about souls trapped in a very creepy mansion. The tortured souls visited the Harmon family when the family of three bites off a lot more than they can chew with a move from Boston to Los Angeles. With ghost boyfriends, a very peculiar and devilish busybody of the neighborhood (Constance Langdon, played by Jessica Lange), and anxiety-inducing performances from Dylan McDermott and Connie Britton as Ben and Vivien, the new unsuspecting homeowners trying to work on their unfaithful marriage. "Murder House" was an immediate success and set expectations high for the following seasons.

In Season 3, "Coven" took on the realm of witches in New Orleans with this tale of Salem witches who survived and migrated to Louisiana. During present day, the tortured coven is in the middle of an almost civil war from within while looking to arrive at a painful truce of coexistence with the suspicious citizens.

The horror story continues in Season 8, reportedly set to be 18 months into the future of where "Coven" left off, and features a long list of returning fan favorites including Sarah Paulson, Emma Roberts, Evan Peters, Billie Lourd, Kathy Bates, Cheyenne Jackson, Billy Eichner, Adina Porter, and Leslie Grossman. Roberts put a video on Instagram of her in character as Madison Montgomery. “Surprise bitch, bet you thought you’d seen the last of me” (her famous line that later was turned into a very popular meme). She’s been shanked in the throat and choked to death, but she could definitely be back again. Witches don’t die; I mean, a second attempt at life isn’t unheard of — but a third? Maybe! Franchise newcomer Joan Collins will play a "comedic hairdresser” and grandmother of Evan Peters' character. Ryan Murphy responded to a tweet from a AHS fan asking if Taissa Farmiga would return with, “All the witches are being asked back.” I know we would all love to see Farmiga back for the new season since she was such a iconic part of "Murder House" and "Coven."

We have a few months left of Ryan Murphy and the AHS gang agonizingly teasing and torturing us until the end of summer about when in 2018 the first episode will land, but we’re just going to have to feel the contentment and relief within ourselves knowing that we won’t have to wait until next year.
