Ten historical monsters you probably didn't know existed Part 1.

This post, 10 historical monsters you've probably never heard of, is based on an original essay by Jessie Clark. I'd like to state that I never like to presume things, but I should also point out that today's narrative delves into some really serious and uncomfortable material. Everyone else, let's get started.

Genghis Khan is a well-known figure.
Albert Hitler As appetizing as it is to imagine these power and fame-hungry monsters dying obscurity never to be remembered—unquestionably a fate worse than death—some of them it is important to learn from their crimes to ensure they can never be repeated, so with that in mind let's take a look at some historical bad guys. Barbara Bathory

It's likely that the name Elizabeth Bathory means nothing to you, but it should conjure up chilling tales of darkness and horror.Known as The Blood Countess, this 16th-century Hungarian noblewoman killed an estimated 600 girls and bathed in their blood to maintain her youth. Was this one of the most sinister reigns of terror in human history,or does a more nuanced story lie beneath the legends that have woven her into a monstrous figure?

Whether she was actually responsible for these crimes or merely the victim of someone else's slander,it appears there is a True Villain somewhere in this story number nine.Atrocities have been exaggerated to the point of absurdity over the centuries because poor record keeping in her day made it difficult to distinguish between the truth and fiction. According to a legend, Sony Bean and his family reportedly cut a grisly route to the untamed Scottish countryside sometime in the 16th century.

According to the law, the Beans believed to number in the dozens would ambush and Rob on suspecting passersby for dragging them into their secret Coastal cave Hideout where they preyed upon unsuspecting Travelers for sustenance and pleasure. The Beans' reign of terror and the sheer brutality of their crimes have immortalized the Bean clan of one of Scotland's most macabre characters.

As you can probably infer from the wording, a lot of this tale is probably made up, but true or not, the legend served as the inspiration for several works of art, including The Hills Have Eyes, so good luck getting any sleep tonight if you run into this esteemed nobleman and military captain in the streets of 15th-century France. However, dirai was skulking in plain sight like Heisenberg to avoid detection.

The eyes of Joan of Arc Life took a terrifying turn after her execution because of his bizarre preoccupation with the occult and alchemy. He begins a string of heinous crimes, including luring young boys to his castles, torturing them cruelly, abusing them sexually in ways we won't go into here, and eventually killing them. The scale of his crimes is staggering; estimates place the number of innocent lives lost at his hands in the dozens to hundreds.Thankfully, Dirai was eventually apprehended, forced to confess, and prosecuted. However, some modern historians question whether he was actually guilty or whether he was merely giving his tormentors what they wanted to hear.

When we consider the huge European Empires, you generally think of Britain. Along with a few other Power Players, Spain,France On the other hand, Belgium is portrayed as a tiny nation that was frequently oppressed by Germany. This isn't necessarily true, but Belgium's status as a cute waffle maker and innocent victim of the world wars has blinded the world to its terrible crimes in Africa. Enter Leopold II,the Belgian monarch from 1865 to 1909,who was honored for some of his accomplishments.

His actions in the Congo Free State, which is driven by greed for profitable rubber and philanthropic pretenses, are not worthy of the acclaim he receives for his domestic policies.Leopold II used enslaved labor, forced labor, nd other human rights violations to establish a reign of terror in the Congo.
