8. SULTAN SHAH OF BRUNEI (TM 1581 - 1582)

He ascended the throne in TM 1581. He has no prince. After His Majesty's protection, in TM 1582, he was replaced by His Majesty's younger brother, Pengiran Muda Tengah Muhammad Hasan

9. SULTAN MUHAMMAD HASAN (TM 1582 - 1598)

His Majesty ascended the throne in TM 1582. During his reign, the titles 'Pengiran Di-Gadong' and 'Pengiran Pemancha' were held. Ordering Pehin Orang Kaya Di-Gadong Seri Lela violated Milau (Sarawak). His Majesty protected in TM 1598 and was succeeded by his son, Pengiran Muda Besar 'Abdul Jalilul 'Akbar.

10. SULTAN ABDUL JALILUL AKBAR (TM 1598 - 1659)

His Majesty ascended the throne in TM 1598. At the time of ascending the throne, His Majesty was assisted by his father's brother, Pengiran Di–Gadong Besar Osman. In TM 1599, established relations with Spain in Manila. TM 1600, Oliver Van Noort, a Dutch trader came to Brunei. His Majesty protected in the year TM 1659.

11. SULTAN ABDUL JALILUL JABBAR (TM 1669 - 1660)

He ascended the throne in 1659. He was the son of Pengiran Temenggong, Shamsuddin, Raja Gayoh. His Majesty protected in 1660

12. SULTAN HAJI MUHAMMAD ALI (TM 1660 - 1661)

His Majesty ascended the throne in 1660. His Majesty's royal throne was usurped by Pengiran Bendahara 'Abdul Hakkul Mubin because his son was stabbed by Pengiran Muda Bongsu who lost in a cockfight. His Majesty protected on 14 Rabiulawal 1072 equivalent to 6 November 1661.

13. SULTAN ABDUL HAKKUL MUBIN (TM 1661 - 1673)

His Majesty ascended the throne in 1661. His Majesty seized the royal throne from Sultan Haji Muhammad 'Ali, then was defended by Pengiran Muda Muhyiddin until there was a civil war for 12 years. His Majesty protected in 1673.

14. SULTAN MUHYIDDIN (TM 1673 - 1690)

His Majesty ascended the throne in 1673. Took over the royal throne from Sultan 'Abdul Hakkul Mubin. In 1685, managed to overcome the tricks of the Spanish forces who pretended to come to visit Brunei. His Majesty's era, Datu Dakula came to Brunei to defend his father but was resolved by his brother-in-law, Pengiran Bandahara Pengiran Muda Amir ibni Sultan 'Abdul Hakkul Mubin. His Majesty protected in 1690.

15. SULTAN NASRUDDIN (TM 1690 - 1710)

He ascended the throne in 1690. During His time, Dato Godam came to Brunei. His Majesty protected in 1710.

16. SULTAN HUSIN KAMALUDDIN (TM 1710 - 1730) (TM 1737 - 1740)

He ascended the throne in 1710. He ascended the throne twice and finally settled in Luba. During His Majesty's time, the country was prosperous and sustenance was easy to obtain. Used to issue currency called 'pitis'. His Majesty protected in 1770.

17. SULTAN MUHAMMAD ALAUDDIN (TM 1730 - 1737)

His Majesty ascended the throne in 1730. Once issued currency called 'pitis'. His Majesty protected in 1737.

18. SULTAN OMAR ALI SAIFUDDIEN I (TM 1740-1795)

His Majesty ascended the throne in 1740. In 1775, ordered Pengiran Temenggong Pengiran Ampa to withdraw the Suluk forces led by Datu Teting who wanted to invade Brunei and successfully defeated him. His Majesty protected in 1795.

19. SULTAN MUHAMMAD TAJUDDIN (TM 1795-1804) (TM 1804-1807)

He ascended the throne in 1795. He ascended the throne twice. The Sultan of Brunei once sent an envoy to China to market Brunei goods there. Once sent an envoy to make peace with Spain in Manila. His Majesty protected in 1807.

20. SULTAN MUHAMMAD JAMALUL ALAM I (TM 1804)

He ascended the throne on April 26, 1804. He was on the throne for about 7 months only before he abdicated on November 19, 1804.

21. SULTAN MUHAMMAD KANZUL `ALAM (TM 1807-1826)

His Majesty ascended the throne in 1807. In 1821, issued and lowered the 'pitis' money to padi. In 1809, the British force led by 'Si Merah' came to Brunei with a big and fierce kuyuk (dog) to be fought by the Bruneians and was defeated by Pengiran Muhammad Daud; because of his success he was paraded as 'Pengiran Pemancha'. He also managed to catch the Sultan of Terengganu's prize tiger that escaped from its enclosure. In 1823, the envoy of the Dutch Government came to Brunei. During His Majesty's reign, Pengiran Muhammad Salleh was appointed Pengiran Indera Mahkota and ordered to rule Sarawak. He abdicated in 1826.

22. SULTAN MUHAMMAD ALAM (TM 1826-1828)

He ascended the throne in 1826, during the lifetime of his father.

23. SULTAN OMAR ALI SAIFUDDIN II (TM 1828-1852)

He ascended the throne in 1828. In 1839, James Brooke came to Sarawak. In 1842, James Brooke was appointed Rajah of Sarawak. In 1845, His Majesty surrendered Labuan Island to the British. In 1846 the forces led by James Brooke attacked Brunei. In 1847, signed the Treaty of Friendship and Commerce with England. His Majesty protected in 1852.
