For thousands of years, seafarers have passed down a legend about a creature with a human body and a fish tail and a beautiful voice that used to charm handsome fishermen to death. That is the Siren.

Legend has it that the Sirens were half-human, half-bird creatures with beautiful singing voices. Once, the goddess Hera organized a singing contest between the Sirens and the nine Muses - the goddesses of music who were the children of Zeus and Mnemosyne, the goddess of wisdom. Unfortunately, the Sirens lost the contest and their feathers were plucked off by the Muses to make clothes as trophies. Without feathers, the Sirens could no longer fly and their lower bodies gradually turned into fish tails. According to legend, their tails could glow to make them more attractive to men.

The Sirens live on an island called Anthemoessa , located between Sicily and Italy. The island is surrounded by large rocks that can destroy any ships that try to approach.

The "mission" of the Sirens is to sing enchanting songs to deceive seafarers and cause them to die. Their songs had magical melodies and caused the disoriented sailors to crash their ships straight to the island and be wrecked by the rocks around the island.

The mysterious beauty of the Sirens.

The bones of sailors on the islands will be used by the Sirens as musical instruments. Mermaids will often gather in singing groups of three and use musical instruments such as Lyre and flute to play melodious melodies.

Sirens are actually described as creatures of beauty as alluring as jewels and powers as vast as the sea. Their songs can cause sailors to fall into distress. Sometimes the waves carry their voices to ships to warn of impending bad weather.

The Sirens Attack the Sailors' Ship

Siren mermaids don't just trick sailors into death, they also sometimes save the lives of shipwrecked sailors. These sailors will then stay on the island to have children with the mermen and gradually transform into "Mermen" - male mermen. Because of this, women hate Siren for seducing their men. Medieval paintings show mermaids often carrying a small hand mirror - a common item of prostitutes.

Sirens often use lyre as their musical instrument

Legend has it that if a sailor refuses the Siren's love, they will encounter very dangerous misfortune. When the Siren is injured, the entire crew will also encounter a series of unfortunate events. However, mermaids are still considered gentle creatures in myth and nature.
