You WON'T Believe What Happens in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire! (Review)
Epic battles, shocking reveals, and a whole lotta proton pack - This new Ghostbusters movie is FIRE!
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Review - More Bustin', Less Perfect
Hey everyone, my name name is SpidyJitesh and I love talking about movies, especially those with ghosts and proton packs!
In this article, we'll be diving into the latest Ghostbusters film, "Frozen Empire." Did it capture the magic of the originals? Let's discuss!
Now, onto Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire!
Going into this movie, I was excited because it was heavily influenced by "The Real Ghostbusters" animated show. Unlike previous films that started the Ghostbusters from scratch, "Frozen Empire" throws them right into action in New York City. This permits the film to extend the legend of the establishment in manners no other film has since the first.
We get to see our favorite characters – Ray, Winston, Egon (mentioned but not appearing due to the passing of Harold Ramis), Peter, Janine, and Slimer – all integrated into the main plot. The movie even explores the relationship between Ray and Winston in a way that feels genuine and heartwarming.

Some New Faces
There are also some new characters, including Patton Oswalt and Kumal Nanjiani. Oswalt delivers a fun, ridiculous exposition scene, while Nanjiani brings his signature humor to the film. The villain itself is more ominous than those in previous movies, adding a welcome dose of spookiness.
Humor vs Heart
"Frozen Empire" leans more towards humor than its predecessor, "Afterlife." "Eternity" was a very character-driven film with a ton of profound load because of the passing of Egon. "Frozen Empire" focuses on building a new family of Ghostbusters and has a lighter, more playful tone.
A World of Ghosts
This movie feels more lived-in than some past Ghostbusters films. It seems like there's an entire history of occasions occurring when the film, making an existence where phantoms are a steady presence and individuals are continually managing them. This figures out the folklore of the establishment in a manner that has been absent since the first.
Not Without Flaws
However, the movie does have some issues. There are simply too many characters. With a large cast, the plot gets a little convoluted as the movie tries to give everyone something to do in a limited runtime. Some characters, like Podcast and Lucky from "Afterlife," feel shoehorned in. Others, like Finn Wolfhard's character, have underdeveloped subplots.
Problems
The movie takes a while to get going. There's a long middle section with investigations, subplots, and character introductions before things finally kick into high gear.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I liked the big ideas behind "Frozen Empire." The villain, the premise, and the lore expansion are all interesting. However, the movie feels rushed, with underdeveloped characters and pacing issues. I wonder if it could have benefited from more development time.
Fan Reactions
Most of the Ghostbusters fans I talked to after the screening enjoyed the movie. Here are some of their comments:
"I loved it! Had a great time!"
"Lots of good lore building!"
"Movie was something special!"
Should You See It?
If you're a die-hard Ghostbusters fan, you'll probably enjoy this movie. However, if you're more casual, you might want to wait to stream it.
