After receiving a sacred gift from the gods of Brazil, our hero seems destined for great things. Little does she know, another pantheon has been watching her as well. Hera, queen of the Greek gods, has chosen Yara to become her latest champion. But what need does the goddess have for a warrior of her own? Find out in this stirring second issue!

Because we don’t know the full prophecy that the Queens of the Amazons, multiple as they are in different regions of the world as we all know now, know but that part of the mystery is something that I’m currently digging. Keep something back so that there’s always still something to learn. It keeps the readers on their toes and generates more interest and intrigue factors not that this really needs that because as is this is a heck of a lot more enjoyable than I was ever thinking it would be. Now we all know there are gods out there from different parts of the world who worship different sets of deities and hopefully we’ll be learning more about the ones in Brasil and the other South American beliefs.

I am loving the way that this is being told. The story & plot development that we see through how the sequence of events unfold as well as how the reader learns information is presented exceptionally well. The character development that we see through the narration, the dialogue, the character interaction and how they act to the situations and circumstances which they encounter is utterly magnificent to see. The pacing is superb and as it takes us through the pages revealing more and more of the story it’s easy to get lost in this with the words and visuals being so striking.

I am very much enjoying the way that this is being structured and how we see the layers within the story continue to grow, evolve and emerge as the existing avenues get more attention and new ones open up. Whether these layers work with the main arc or simply swirl around it they do add extra depth and complexity to the story. How we see everything working together to create the story’s ebb & flow as well as how it moves the story forward is exceptionally well achieved.

The interiors here are absolutely bloody gorgeous! The linework is exquisite and how we see the varying weights and techniques being utilised to create this level & quality of detail work is truly astounding. If anything I wish we’d see more backgrounds being utilised throughout as they enhance the moments beautifully. What we do see in the composition of the panels brings out the depth perception, sense of scale and the overall sense of size and scope to the story very well. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show such a masterful eye for storytelling. The colour work is absolutely brilliant as well. The various hues and tones within the colours being utilised to create the shading, highlights and shadow work show a true understanding of how colour works and how to use it for maximum affect. What we see is just amazing and that scene on the plane, the underwater moments it just captures something in the readers mind and imagination so perfectly.

I am so engaged and invested in this story and we’re only two issues in and this is a testament to skill and talent that these creator’s posses. Yara is going through a transformation she doesn’t yet know about and as she stumbles around wondering what is happening to her she’s being besieged and it’s causing all kinds of chaos around her. This is the kind of stuff that we want to see happen but never do, until now, as instead of training her or finding out about her personality it’s attack city proving that even Amazons first inclination is towards violence making them no better than men.

With some truly inspired writing and characterisation wrapped up in these brilliant interiors this is the kind of emergence of a new hero we’ve longed for.
