Wolf Pack Review: "Fear and Pain"

The newfound pack's bond becomes even stronger in Episode 4

I apologize for being a hair late with this review. I was unable to get the proper captures I needed for this story, but it's been taken care of, and I can deliver. I was excited for this episode, because it's Episode #4, the first of two episodes where things are supposed to get a little "twisty." We see Kristin Ramsey talking to Austin about the day of the crash, and Austin tells the same story he has been stating: he saw a large creature roaming. Ramsey gives the proper description, but then assumes that Austin saw a ram on that day, and no, I'm not talking about Cooper Kupp.

Meanwhile, the quartet remain at the house still talking about the werewolf that's been prowling, while also dealing with the fallout that Garrett had made the silver bullets to kill werewolves, if needed. He then reveals what we know: Harlan and Luna were wolf cubs when he found them, and he had idea if they would turn back into wolves at any point. Everett's fear is that they may all end up becoming the same beast that's out there now, and as for Ramsey, her outside search sees her encounter a ram with big claw marks. Yikes.

Everett's order to the pack is to return to school like normal, but at the moment, they were to stay in the house. Harlan, rebel that he is, goes out clubbing, while Luna envisions herself as a young girl, with blood on her face. The following morning sees Everett waking up and overhearing his parents arguing about him, with Kendra voicing her refusal to drive Everett to school, as well as voicing her deep rooted hatred of Everett. Scott had it right, and kudos to him for calling his narcissistic wife out on it. Kendra had the nerve to complain about Everett screaming, and stayed super-glued to her belief that "it was always something" with Everett when Scott explained that he had colic. At this point, there's only one magic word that can solve this: DIVORCE!

As the class takes their tests, Harlan starts shaking, and he has an idea where that's coming from. The bond is getting stronger; Everett informed the group that he was having an anxiety attack, with the cause being everything that has befallen him. This leads to a heated confrontation from Harlan, who roars at Everett and is stunned by what he sees in the mirror. So Harlan fangs out for the first time; he was the only one of the quartet who hasn't, and Blake's the only one who has done it twice. And regarding Everett's rant, it does confirm what we suspected: the werewolf killed Connor in Episode 2.

Austin asks Luna to draw what was out there, and it happens to be that very beastly werewolf; further confirming his statement. Speaking of Luna, she figures out that she is the reason why Everett made the bullets, as it was revealed that when she was a little girl, she entered a stable and her presence spooked a horse. The horse's reaction caused Luna to scream, and in some act of what appeared to be instinct, Luna's claws came out and she killed the horse. Everett figured out what happened when he found Luna, who was reassured that while the incident led to the bullets being created, it was not why Everett kept them.

As for Blake, she's in charge of Danny while working at a parking garage, and after encountering Phoebe, who was off to the movies, and also encounters a car whose driver isn't revealed. Danny is suddenly gone, leaving Blake in a panic as she searches for her little brother, with Blake loudly calling for him before Everett appears with Danny, as well as Harlan and Luna, who tell Blake that she didn't scream...she howled. Speaking of creatures that howl, we see the werewolf take Miller off to an area where its many, many victims are stashed.

This was quite the episode. The quartet's bond is increasing exponentially, and as for Ramsey, she continues to deny what's out there, but she is starting to know the truth. At least I believe so. I still sense something's up with her, but I think I'll know if I'm right or not when Episode 5 pops up. We also got a look back into Luna's past as well; overall, as I said before, quite the episode.

Episode 4, "Fear and Pain," was released on Paramount+ on February 16, 2023. We are now halfway through the opening season, the series is becoming more and more intense, and the plot is continuing to thicken. Episode 5 should give us a lot more, I just have that gut feeling!
