Rumors of Luke's return are fast and furious

The rumors are swirling and soap spoilers have headlines like "Luke whose back." General Hospital fans are hoping that the return of Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) will signal that Lucas Loreno Spencer is not dead and Anthony Geary is returning during the 60-year celebration of the ABC soap. Tracy brought her husband's ashes to Port Charles in January 2022 and they were thrown overboard the Haunted Star and blown back into the face of Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner).

All the talk of the Ice Princess and Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy) desiring to rule the world have fans hopeful. In addition to Elliot's return, Emma Samms will reprise her role as Holly Sutton and she and Felicia Scorpio (Kristina Wagoner) are supposed to reunite soon in Venezuela where Holly will be searching for her son Ethan Lovett (Nathan Parsons). Some General Hospital viewers believe this is where Luke is being held captive and Geary will reprise his popular role.

Soap actors change their minds all the time

There have been a number of soap actors who swore they wouldn't return to daytime but they did. Most recently Kristian Alfonso and Peter Reckell reprised their roles as Hope and Bo Brady on Days of Our Lives. Alfonso said several times that she was done with the show and Reckell asked that his character be killed because he could not stand to see another actor in the role after he left. Both made it clear that their time in Salem was over but they returned a few weeks back temporarily to conclude a storyline. When it comes to Geary, however, there are some extenuating circumstances.

After he left General Hospital in 2015 Geary was coaxed back 2 years later when Elliot retired. He only showed up for about 60 seconds which indicates he really did not desire a big role. Since then he has made his position clear but some spoilers and fans don't want to accept his decision. Here it is in his own words.

I have a home in Amsterdam and no one knows me there. The show has never run in Holland and the Dutch have no interest in celebrity anyway, so I've been able to recapture a lot of the time I sort of lost in terms of just being a regular guy, and that's very valuable to me," he says. "Every time I'd go to Europe, I'd go through Amsterdam, because it's a hub. I always stayed there for a few days and I loved the openness of the people. I loved the liberal, truly unapologetic liberal attitudes. It was great to be in a place where intelligent people didn't spend so much time arguing about things like abortion rights, gay rights, and individual rights. But people just assumed that those things were part of the fabric of their society.... I found that this was the place I'd been looking for all my life. So that's where I intend to stay [now that] my job is through."

General Hospital fans are watching and waiting

When it comes to soap stars fans know to never say never and to expect them to do the opposite of what they once stated on camera or in an interview. It's possible the GH execs have coaxed Geary into another return for another cameo. Perhaps Luke will help take down Victor, save the Ice Princess and the world, and go off into the sunset with Tracy but there is another possibility that General Hospital viewers should keep in mind.

ABC owns the rights to the character and can do whatever they like with him. They could be building hype to keep viewers engaged and there will be no Luke Spencer at the end of the tunnel. Soap spoilers suggesting Anthony Geary's return may only be trying to gain viewers and have nothing to substantiate their claims. Spoilers say Holly will make a stunning discovery which could be Nathan, Luke, both, or neither. When this storyline is over General Hospital fans will be pleasantly surprised that the rumors have been true or be deeply disappointed that it was all a sham.
