Nikki needs something to do.

Nikki Newman needs a side hustle

On The Young and the Restless Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) has done it all. She has been a stripper/pole dancer, a part of a cult, sexually assaulted, and had a number of lovers and husbands. She has been an alcoholic and also dealt with medical issues. Fans were shocked when a few years back Nikki and Victor Newman (Eric Braden) had an open marriage and she was cheating with Arturo Rosales ( Jason Canela).

These days Nikki sits in the background offering sound advice to her husband and children and viewers are wondering what is next for her. When Victor retired from Newman Enterprises fans were curious as to what he could get into that would keep him active. For a while, he sat on the couch at the Newman ranch and some viewers thought perhaps Braeden was ill. In recent months the "Mustache" has been busy with his daughter Victoria Newman Locke's (Amelia Heinle) wedding, trying to protect Ashland Locke (Richard Burgi) and plotting against Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson). Nikki, however, has not been doing anything significant and some fans wonder what is left for her at this point?

Soap Hub has put out a scenario that indeed is wild speculation which suggests that when Billy crashes his former mother-in-law can be his sponsor. The spoiler points out as do the fans that Niki needs something significant in her life. She's already married and divorced Victor 4 times and they are now on marriage number 5. She has had several bouts of falling off the wagon and her MS flaring up so what can she do now?

Melody Thomas Scott has much to give

At 65 there is still more Thoma Scott can offer if the writers will give her a chance. On NBC's Days of Our Lives, Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) is still going strong at 74 and is currently in a front-burner storyline. Even before being possessed by the devil a second time the psychiatrist remained in the forefront of the action in Salem. Katherine Kelly Lang (age 60) is always invovled in the action on the CBS sister soap The Bold and the Beautiful. On ABCs General Hospital Genie Francis (59) is the major and continues to stay on top of the action and remain in front burner storylines. Nancy Lee Grahn (65) was still having sizzling scenes with Julian Jerome (William deVry) only a few years back.

The problem with Nikki is that she has been written as Mrs. Victor Newman and over the decades her life is either entangled with his or she leaves him for another man. The female characters on the other soaps have relationships and marriages, jobs they work outside the home, and a lot of connections with others son their respective soaps. Nikki does not work and does not have any friends or extended family outside of her children Victoria and Nick Neman (Joshua Morrow).

The Young and the Restless: Writers should enhance Nikki

Victor on the other hand always has a business rival to contend with or is meddling in the lives of people that he should leave alone. Niki should become closer with Abby and spend time with her and Dominic. Perhaps she could assist Vicki at Newman Enterprises in some manner or hang out. with Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) or Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) when they come to town.

These women are not friends but the storyline could be written to take them in that direction. Fans may recall a few years back the drama when Nikki thought she had killed JT Helstrom (Thad Luckenbill). Along with Phyllis Summers (Gina Tognoni) Sharon Newman Rosales (Sharon Case), and Victoria they had quite the escapade and were dubbed the "Coverup gang) when they tried to hide the body. The writers need to come up with something just as interesting for Nikki now but hopefully not another murder.
