Patriarchs of B&B and Y&R

Soap fans are very loyal and also vocal when things don't go their way. There have been times when network brass heeds the viewers and make changes. There is one area, however, where those who watch both of the CBS daytime dramas have complained and been ignored. Social media allows disgruntled fans to express themselves in a manner that was not possible before. Those who enjoy The Young and the Restless, as well as The Bold and the Beautiful, continue to cry out for answers, as to why fan favorite characters are not being utilized.

The Young and the Restless brought back a number of popular characters when Josh Griffith took over as head writer. Greg Rikaart and Elizabeth Hendrickson were rehired as Kevin and Chloe, and Mishael Morgan came back as Amanda Sinclair, a Hillary look alike. Doug Davidson, Lauralee Bell, Christian LeBlanc, and Traci Bregman all were given more air time, and then it stopped. Viewers have complained on Facebook and Twitter and even had a few petitions going to get the attention of the powers that be. The only cast member who left and returned who seems to be doing just what they desire is Eileen Davidson. She pops in and out as Ashley and does not appear to have a problem with it.

Now, spoilers are suggesting that Greg Rikaart might be leaving again, along with Jordi Vilasusa who portrays Rey. Kevin and Chloe's son is about to be born and fans thought they were beginning a new life in Genoa City. If the rumors are true, it's likely the entire family would probably be exiting together. Most disgruntled viewers say they do not understand why these actors are on the canvas but never given meaningful storylines. How many times can there be a takeover attempt or infighting at Jabot or Newman Enterprises? Fans understand that the Newmans and Abbotts are the core families on Y&R but would enjoy storylines with the other longtime cast members as well.

Over at sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful, fan favorites are shuffled in and out as if they have no value. Viewers go for long stretches of time without seeing Charlie and Pam, Donna, or Justin. Xander was written out, came back for a few episodes, then was gone again. Zende and Nicole went to Paris and now the rumor mill says Zende will return but Rome Flynn will not be in the role. It is being alleged he will have a romance with Maya, who has not been seen in more than a year. Fans of the show have expressed on social media that they are tired of the love triangles with Bill, Brooke, Katie and Ridge who keep going back and forth between each other. Dollar Bill often is doing nothing more than standing behind his desk.

The same has been said of Liam, Steffy, Wyatt and Hope. Some fans have said they believe it is only a matter of time before Shauna and Flo are written out and that the same old storylines will continue. The writers of both soaps should pay more attention to the viewers because without them there would be no programming. For at least two years straight those who watch both CBS daytime drama shows have complained but nothing has changed. It looks like fans are going to be in for more of the same.

Those who watch The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful are increasingly becoming annoyed with both daytime dramas. Viewers want to see more of fan favorites and less of the same old predictable storylines. John Griffith said he was going to bring back the glory days in Genoa City and he started out doing just that. Now it seems that things have stalled. Brad Bell obviously believes his formula of borderline incest is what fans desire but he is wrong. Katie has been with Bill, his son Wyatt and Ridge who is her sister's husband. Steffy has slept with Bill Spencer and both of his sons. Brooke was married to Ridge and his dad Eric. Viewers desire more and want more so come on and do the right thing.
