‘The Wheel Of Time’ Season 2: 10 Most Memorable Moments
The Prime Video epic high fantasy TV series has great performances and memorable moments aplenty in its sophomore season.
The Wheel weaves as the Wheel wills.
And The Wheel of Time definitely delivered some truly mesmerizing weaves in its second season—from breathtaking performances and well-choreographed fight sequences, to stunning costumes and set locations.
Based on the acclaimed 15-volume high fantasy novel series (1990-2013) The Wheel of Time by American novelist Robert Jordan (with Brandon Sanderson authoring the last three books,) the lavishly-produced Prime Video series is one of the most gripping drama series streaming right now, with a host of characters that you would either love or hate, or hate to love, or downright despised.
The Wheel of Time Season 2 sees the five Two Rivers friends scattered across the Westlands, each in their own separate journeys and with their own challenges, before being deviously brought back together again by the Dark One’s cronies, whilst Moiraine Damodred (Rosamund Pike)—despite being cut from the One Power—strives to protect Rand al’Thor the Dragon Reborn (Josha Stradowski) at all costs.
Here are but 10 most memorable moments in The Wheel of Time Season 2:
(Warning: Spoilers for the series ahead.)
10 Most Memorable Moments in ‘The Wheel of Time’ Season 2
1. Ewgene’s Damane Agony
In Season 2 Episode 6, “Eyes Without Pity,” Ewgene al’Vere (Madeleine Madden) is forced to become a damane by Seanchan sul’dam Renna (Xelia Mendes-Jones). Collared, leashed and controlled, the horrendous pain Ewgene had to go through as she tries to fight against her captor till the moment she is finally broken was harrowingly felt at every point thanks to Madden’s heartrending Emmy-worthy performance.
2. Lanfear Setting Foregate on Fire
Natasha O’Keeffe’s cunning yet charming portrayal of Lanfear the Forsaken easily makes her one of the season’s best new characters. Blessed with a stunning wardrobe, Lanfear’s most diva moment came in Season 2 Episode 7, "Daes Dae'mar,” when—begged by Rand to free him from the clutches of the Amyrlin Seat in Cairhien—she nonchalantly sashays through the Foregate setting things on fire with just a flick of her hand.
3. Mat and The Heroes of the Horn
Call it the redemption of Mat Cauthon (Donal Finn) if you will. In the season’s eighth and final episode, “What Was Meant to Be,” when faced with a company of menacing Seanchan soldiers, the Two Rivers lad blows the Horn of Valere and the Heroes of the Horn miraculously appear to fight alongside him. It’s a goosebump-inducing, fist-pumping moment that still gives the same sensation with every rewatch!
4. “You Have Always Been My Better…”
A quiet heartfelt moment in the action-packed Season 2 finale is when Moiraine finally tells Lan Mandragoran (Daniel Henney) what she’d meant when she said they were never equals in Episode 2, “Strangers and Friends.” As the two bonded once again as Aes Sedai and Warder, with gentle weaves flowing around them as they stand on a pristine beach, it is truly a beautiful sight to behold.
5. One Power >> Heron-Mark Sword
Challenged by High Lord Turak (Daniel Francis) in the finale episode to duel with their heron-mark swords, Rand has an Indiana Jones moment when he simply wields the One Power to knock off Mr Long Nails and his minions in the blink of an eye. A sword fight would have been great but then again, the Dragon Reborn is on a mission to rescue Egwene so he doesn’t have time to dilly-dally!
6. Forsaken Tete-a-tete in Tel'aran'rhiod
An intriguing sequence in Season 2 Episode 5, “Damane,” features a private conversation between Ishamael (the utterly smooth Fares Fares) and Lanfear in his Falme bedroom where the former’s plans for the Two Rivers Five—as well as a foreshadowing of the latter’s betrayal—are revealed. The mind-blowing moment is when Ishamael is eventually seen being awakened from sleep, indicating that he and Lanfear were in Tel'aran'rhiod, or the World of Dreams, the entire time.
7. The Battle of Falme / Hopper’s Demise
The season finale was practically one giant battle in Falme which was thrilling to watch whether it’s the Whitecloaks, Shienaran warriors, or the Aiel Maidens of the Spear fighting against the Seanchan. Plot armor for the main characters notwithstanding, Perrin Aybara’s (Marcus Rutherford) reunions with Loial (Hammed Animashaun) and Mat were sweet, but when Hopper the Wolf was killed while saving his Wolfbrother, that really released the waterworks…
8. “Get Up, Don’t Encourage Her!”
Nynaeve al’Neara (Zoe Robins) and Elayne Trakand’s (Ceara Coveney) rather weak plotline in the Season 2 finale made this light-hearted moment in Episode 7 involving their chance meeting with Loial in Falme even more unforgettable. As Elyane beams from ear to ear to the Ogier’s declaration of her royal status, Nynaeve’s annoyance and impatience in knowing how much the Daughter-Heir of Andor is loving every minute speaks volumes. Kudos to Robins’ spot-on delivery.
9. Love Torn Asunder
In Episode 7, Moiraine and Siuan Sanche (Sophie Okonedo) disagreed on how the Dragon Reborn should be handled. The last straw was when the Amyrlin Seat forces Moiraine to close the Cairhien Waygate via the vow she previously made on the Oath Rod. Gutted and adamant to protect Rand her way, Moiraine leaves a Lanfear-wounded Siuan behind but not before the two (ex)lovers exchange pained looks that were absolutely soul-piercing.
10. Creepy Forsaken Cometh
Introduced in the finale cliffhanger, the latest Forsaken is creepily good. Well played by Spanish actress Laia Costa, Moghedien not only catches the over-confident Lanfear off guard, she icily reveals that she and the other five Ishamael-released Forsaken are all out to get Rand and his friends. Light helps us, can’t wait for Season 3!
