Ever felt like you were born in the wrong era? This artist shows us what our favorite movies might look like if they hit the small screen a few years ago - or 30.

Artist and graphic designer Matthew Dix, a.k.a. offtrackoutlet, gives some of today's most popular films a nostalgic time-warp transformation, by recreating what they might have looked like if they'd been released in the 80s to early 90s, on classic VHS. You can see the whole (vast, colorful) collection at his Instagram and blog, or scroll down for a trip down movie memory lane.

And I do mean 'trip.' Because sometimes it almost seems like looking right into a surreal parallel universe. Check out some old-school recreations of modern-day favorites - no nostalgia goggles necessary.

Ah, nostalgia AND plain, simple romance. Who could ask for more?

...I see somebody lost their drink after all. Oh dear.

Functionality seems as important to the artist as design - and the tapes-in-action demonstration seems to live up to the "Fully Watchable" claim. Yep, the ultimate nostalgia-fan dream of playing modern movies on classic technology, is, apparently, a reality.

However, I checked, and that tempting 'buy' button on Dix's blog doesn't actually do anything. And if it did, we'd probably only be able to obtain prints of the cover art - still awesome - and not the tapes. Copyright and whatnot.

GIF goodness from the official blog

But we've certainly gotten a lot of viewing pleasure out of the wonderful art alone. They've given us an amazing look at what matters to us: good movies, fond looks back at where we've been, and artistic re-imagining of where we are now. I can't wait to see where this art, and our movie experience, will take us next.
