In part 2 of "Season One," Millie and Mae Mae come face-to-face with the killer Snowman for the first time!

What an amazing little book this is. With the Snowman coming last issue and his presence now being felt full force by the characters and the reader adds this crazy amount of tension and fear immediately and it never lets up through to the last page. That we see this so crystal clear as we do and not just that feel as sharply as we do is absolutely amazing. I am simply blown away by these two gentlemen working together in such synchronicity that they are able to create something with fewer words than you might expect and yet the entire story comes flashing through you eyes as completely as if you had written it yourself and I don’t think I have ever seen this before any medium. Impressive barely begins to describe the feeling you get when you are reading this.

I am loving the way that this is being told. The story & plot development that we see through how the sequence of events unfold as well as how the reader learns information is perfectly presented. How things occur and how we see the events and if there is such a thing as lady luck it’s temporarily on the side. This Snowman seems like it’s either a robot or a man in a suit and either way the threat he poses is anything if not terrifying. The character development that we see is stunning! How we see the dialogue, the character interaction and how they act and react to the situations and circumstances they encounter is what really fleshes them out. It also reminds us how young the girls are and how their panicking makes you want to slap em silent. I know that’s not PC but you know what I just can’t understand why they aren’t listening to their dad and it’s part of that tension and terror of drawing the Snowman back that makes the reader react this way. The pacing is superb and as it takes us through the pages revealing more and more of the story it has this affect on the reader that makes you feel like you too cannot escape what’s happening.

Jock is one of today’s unsung artists working today. We all know who he is and have seen some of his work but what we see here leaves the reader gobsmacked. The linework is sensational and how we see the varying weights and techniques being utilised to create the level and quality of detail work is phenomenal. The composition within the panels bring out the depth perception, sense of scale and the overall sense of size and scope to the story beautifully. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show such a masters eye for storytelling. The colour work is simply stunning. The whites and blues that come with the cold, ice and snow is brilliantly rendered. The various hues and tones we see within the colours being created for the shading, highlights and shadow work shows such a great understanding of how colour should work.

ComiXology Originals is the reason to read digital comics. Now if someone would collect these as a physical trade i’d be even happier lol but in the meantime they’ve really come to understand just how pick and choose those special stories that have the ability to touch millions of readers and in the most profound ways. That we can feel what is happening alongside the characters and with the interiors almost feel the cold in the air is why these folks are masters of their crafts. Wondering if digital comics are for you? I would recommend you start with this series and see for yourself if the power of comics is just as prevalent here as it is in physical books.
