Cast of Sistas

If you loved Living Single in the 90s, then you definitely will like Sistas, Tyler Perry’s new sitcom on the BET network. Now I will admit that Sistas is a little more edgy than Living Single, but it still follows the lives and loves of four women who are the closest of friends. Also, whereas Living Single was more episodic, Sistas is more serialized in it’s delivery.

Let’s take a look at the cast of both shows to see where they are similar and where they are different, we have Danni, the airline employee, who is similar to the loud mouth often sarcastic Maxine, Andi, the lawyer, is who is similar to the bougie and extravagant Regine, Karen, who owns her own hair salon, who is similar to the business savvy and often times the level headed one in the group Khadijah, Sabrina, who is a manager at a bank, who is similar to the somewhat naïve and indecisive Synclaire, and Maurice, who is works for Sabrina at the bank and is gay, who is similar the outspoken and often sarcastic Kyle. Along with that cast of characters is Zac, who works at the airport with Dani, who is a sensitive and often misunderstood wanna be bad boy who is the former boyfriend of Karen, Aaron who is the a headed man of God who has fallen for Karen and who Karen is using to get over Zac, Gary the controlling and somewhat abusive love interest of Andi's and is being counselled by Aaron, Calvin who had an unconventional upbringing and love interest of Sabrina’s and is friends with Maurice, Jacobi who is a new employee under Sabrina at the bank where she is the manager but has that bad boy edge she’s attracted to, Preston the unlikely love interest of Danni being he is as country as they come and not to mention he is Caucasian with no idea of how to deal with black woman, and Fatima new love interest of Zac who works for Andi and gets her hair done by Karen and is unaware of Zac’s knowledge of either of the ladies. There is a lot of 6 degrees of separation happening amongst the cast, and it is this intertwining of their lives that make the show so interesting.

In Living Single we followed the lives and loves of the 4 women, who were the main focus of the show, as they navigated their way through their respective careers and love lives in a comedic way, and each episode didn’t necessarily require you to watch any prior episode. Sistas, also follows 4 women as they navigate their way through life in their respective careers and love lives however, it is done in a dramatic way as they encounter pitfall after pitfall and handle them like new born calves learning how to walk again. If you are one of those people who gets caught up in the lives of the characters in the shows you watch, there is a lot to get caught up in with this show from Andi and Karen being confronted by the then wives of Gary and Aaron to Sabrina having “performance” issues with Calvin because she thinks he’s gay by the way he dresses and the way he behaves to Danni not knowing how to receive real love when it’s given to her by Preston because of all the heartbreak she’s suffered in the past to Karen putting Zac out of her apartment and life because she feels he’s not trying hard enough to stand on his own 2 feet and him running into Fatima literally and her taking him in to her life and her side business, to Preston coming from a redneck hillbilly family with money who is dead set against him being with a black woman except for his sister who is all for it, to Maurice who has to defend his “lifestyle” and himself on a number of occasions but specializes in being a thorn in Sabrina’s side at work and outside of the workplace. Furthermore, with Sistas, if you miss an episode, you miss a lot as each show provides background information for the next one.

So if you want a juicy, edge of your seat drama that will have your heart and mind racing with everything the characters get themselves into, Sistas is definitely a must watch.
