Audience members and fans a like had put it out there that Ross Geller is everyone’s least favourite character on the show. That statistics say that Chandler ranked as the top favourite then it’s a bit of toss up between Joey and Rachel, the Ross and Monica are also a bit of a toss up as well. There are many articles and blogs stating that Ross was the worst character from friends because of how he treated Rachel when they were together and even before that, he was constantly jealous which resulted him in being controlling. We can all agree on that, however the trauma that his ex wife left him was never healed. In the first episode we see Ross come in with his comical and sad “hi” and we already know he is having a tough time. He then has a moment where he thinks he can move on with someone new and gets out in the dating world. Then, his life gets thrown around when his lesbian ex wife is pregnant with his baby. I can’t imagine trying to get along with a cheating ex who happened to be cheating on you with someone of the same sex and then being pregnant. Ross never healed from the fact that his ex wife preferred women over him and the fact that she cheated on him, and now she is pregnant. This is a lot to deal with all at once. Ross was worried that the “just a nice guy” named Mark that was Rachel’s co worker would sweep her off her feet and rightfully so since Monica claimed to use the words “humma na hummana” to describe how dreamy this guy was. This was a new relationship and he knows what Rachel was worth to other men as well. This whole time Mark did want ask out Rachel but kept his distance because he knew Ross and Rachel they were together.

Ross and Rachel began dating and then again he lost the love of his life so now he’s lost two loves and then he moves on too fast with Emily and messes up his vows by saying Rachel’s name because again he did not heal his broken heart, yet he did everything to make Emily happy because was in fact in love with her. Then, he lost his third love. Again, it took him a lot to feel better and in between then and there he got Rachel pregnant before he had time to heal. This man went through some crazy life changes without much time for adjustment. One of other reasons for him not being the worst was because he had some of the best lines:

And there’s was this moment where he was pretending he was fine, which I think was really a final breaking point.

Or really any of these moments:

Ross had some really great moments in Friends and I feel like David Schwimer did a wonderful job on bringing the Ross Character to life.

However, despite this list he is still near the bottom of my favourite Friends characters simply because Chandler is hilarious, Jory may not be bright but he was a genuinely good friend, Phoebe is quirky, Rachel is relatable, Ross has some great attributes and Monica is uptight and keeps everyone together. In the end I love these characters and there’s a reason why I keep re-watching episodes and seasons over and over again. Friends is one of the top tv shows of all time. The jokes are still funny, relatable and all over so much fun to revisit.
