Who is the villain in Encanto?

Disney did it again! They created another internet, social media hit movie that is a bigger hit than Frozen. Even the hit song “Let it go” went under because “We don’t talk about Bruno” topped it. However, we see that there isn’t a really obvious villain in the film Encanto. At the start of the film we are made to believe it’s Bruno because everyone blames him for their misfortune. He serves a different purpose though…as the red herring to mislead the audience. However, I believed it was Abuela Alma, but looking at it more closely I saw that it was more of a misunderstanding between generations and she was not a villain but a woman set in her ways who sacrificed a lot to make her family live.

Now, one night I was busy with tik tok instead of sleeping and I came across this Disney conspiracy theory where the tik tikors believed it that Dolores is the villain of the movie. This theory really made me think about it. There are many other Disney conspiracy theories, but this one really struck me as different and shocking for me. I know, I know, she has really cool outfits and she has a lovable bashful personality. But, really think about it…

Bruno has a vision that Dolores will be with the man she loves. However that does not really happen to her because Isabela is supposed to marry him. Dolores then has an issue with that. It might be that Dolores is jealous of Isabela because she is painted as the perfect family member. Naturally, Dolores does not want Bruno to come back into the house because she maybe feels like Bruno lied to her or betrayed her in some manner.

Next, in the song “we don’t talk about Bruno” she basically tells Mirabel that she hears him all the time… her exact lines in the song are “I could always hear him sort of muttering and mumbling, I associate him with the sound of falling sand” as in she could hear him through the walls and the fact that she knew that his room was crumbling and did not really do anything to stop it. Dolores also never told Mirabel where to find him because she wanted the magic to fade. It could also be that Dolores is sick of hearing everything about everyone.

Another fact, think about her gift. Dolores can hear things happen from miles away. Knowing this she probably did hear the walls crack but wanted the magic to fade because once the magic did fade Mariano finally noticed her and not Isabela. Dolores heard Luisa’s eye twitching as well, but she kept that information to herself rather than sharing it with anyone else.

The name Dolores means pain. All the other character names match with their personality traits, which I believe Disney incorporated that on purpose. For example the name Luisa means renowned warrior, which is suitable to her personality. If you look at the name Camilo it is closely related to chameleon and he’s changing all the time.

At the end when the picture is put together and the family can finally go home pause at the family portrait. You can see that Dolores is not happy, her eyes are pointed downwards and she is the only one not smiling. It is an odd fact because the end of Disney movies tend to be a happy moment for all the characters.

There you have it the first conspiracy theory explored and there’s proof there too. A lot of other theories are out there and I will begin to explore them more in depth.
