Ranking the MCU

Movies

With the start of phase 5 there are an insane amount of MCU movies and because I must share my opinion on everything I have decided to rank all of the MCU movies in quality order from best to worst.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

This movie was a profound and beautiful journey through grief and loss and it was so much more than a superhero movie. It was a goodbye letter to Chadwick Boseman and it added the story of two cultures desperately trying not to be colonized, it was as close as it gets to a perfect superhero movie.

Avengers: Endgame

Putting in a reference to every single movie to come before it was a tall order and yet the Russo brothers did it so easily and beautifully. They way they brought in tons of heroes but still centered on the OG 6 was brilliant.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Steve and Bucky is the best love story in the MCU. It's a platonic, brotherly love of course but it is the best bond that we see on screen in the Marvel universe. And this movie did an excellent job of showing how strong that bond is. Also the introduction of Sam Wilson.

Avengers: Infinity War

It was good and it set up everything necessary for Endgame but because of all the things that had to happen it was a little choppy.

Captain America: Civil War

The one where everyone wanted to be Steve’s boyfriend. Though an ensemble movie it was still very clearly a Captain America movie. Which I of course appreciated because it just shows good storytelling. Team Cap forever.

Black Panther

A beautiful and incredible story of a common goal, differing execution. A common theme in comic books but to make it so poignantly about race was gorgeous.

Guardians of the Galaxy

Probably the best MCU story of a found family. It has everything that you could possibly want in a comic book movie.

Spiderman: Homecoming

Didn’t like Spider-man as a character until Tom Holland. People can say what they want about MCU Spider-Man but they did a great job and they are the only Spider-Man movies (besides Into the Spider verse) that I like.

Thor: Ragnarök

A great movie overall, a terrible contribution to the trilogy and in context a movie that tried too hard to be comedic relief before we watched everyone die in Infinity War.

Spiderman: No Way Home

Honestly Spiderman probably had the most consistent trilogy of anyone else. I of course like Captain America’s trilogy the best but Spiderman’s might be the best.

Thor: Love and Thunder

I didn’t hate this movie as much as everyone else seemed to, but I also think that the internet has gone completely brain dead and lost its ability to rationally evaluate a movie. So that said, I think it's a heartbreaking and beautiful film about love and dedication.

Spiderman: Far From Home

I do believe that most of the love for this movie came from nostalgia, however that nostalgia was balanced very well with an amazing story that jump started the next phase in Spiderman’s story.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Beautiful visuals, great fight choreography and the first Asian superhero on screen. I loved it. I just thought it could have been a little more memorable.

The Avengers

The first team up film was as good as it could have been for phase 1. People seem to forget that overall Phase 1 was pretty mediocre.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2

I seriously love this movie. I think it contains so much emotion, and so much heart.

Black Widow

We obviously deserved this movie so so much earlier and because it was so late it killed the quality of the movie in the context of the MCU. However as a stand alone film it is one of the most incredible movies that exists period.

Ant-Man and the Wasp

Mediocre, we are clearly getting to the middle here. It was a movie, it was not good or bad. It was entertaining and that’s all I really expect from most superhero movies.

Captain America: The First Avenger

As with most origin stories it was a little boring in some parts but overall it's a Captain America movie and I loved it as such.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

The internet hated this movie for so literally no reason, it was an Ant-Man movie, there was nothing egregiously wrong with it. It also wasn’t groundbreaking.

Doctor Strange

Eh. Cool visuals, some terrible comic book usage but it was also a movie.

Iron Man

The one that started it all is so so boring in comparison to all of the ones that came after it and it really doesn’t hold up that well.

Ant-Man

Again an origin story that was a little boring.

Age of Ultron

Okay look I know this movie gets a lot of shit and I completely understand why, however it was the movie that made me fall in love with Scarlet Witch and triggered a now near decade long obsession, so it stays out of the bottom tier.

Thor

Probably the most inconsistent trilogy, the first one was not bad but really origin stories are always going to be lower than everything else.

Iron Man 2

This one is slightly more rewatchable then the third one but not by much.

Eternals

This movie could have been incredible but it was a hot ass mess, no structure and truly terrible pacing. The visuals were gorgeous but that is not enough to save a movie.

Iron Man 3

I really shouldn’t have to say anything.

Thor: The Dark World

Everyone knows.

Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness

Michael Waldron should be banned from writing, or talking ever again. The man has never even looked at a comic book and it's embarrassing.
