WTF Endings

In Television

If you’re here it's because you love TV and that means that you have probably stuck with a show long enough to witness it become absolutely terrible. Normally this is a result of a TV show running for too long. The creatives didn’t have an ending in mind, the network forced them to keep going and then creative chaos ensued…and not in a good way. We can all name a show that we loved, we were dedicated too and then it got bad. I’m here to name a few, so here we go.

LOST

This is perhaps the most obvious when we discuss shows that got bad. Now Lost was an overachiever, it didn’t wait until the very last season in order to get bad, it got bad well honestly around season 4 but I consider the true badness hitting at season 5. This was the completely off the wall season. It felt like everyone in the writers room had a different idea and they decided to write them all. It was nonsensical and incoherent and some of the worst television writing in all of media history. And that hurt my heart so bad because the beginning of the show was just so good.

SUPERNATURAL

Again a victim of running too long, Supernatural went from one of the highest rated shows in the world, with one of the most dedicated fan bases to a cultural disappointment with a very upset fan base…because we remained dedicated until the bitter, upsetting end. Now if you ask any Supernatural fan you will get a different answer on when it got bad, the general consensus is season 5 as that was how long the show was planned out for when it started. Personally I think it was great until season 7 and then it started to steadily go downhill. By the time we got to season 15 there was almost nothing that resembled the original show or characters for that matter.

GAME OF THRONES

Another show that blew up the internet because of the horrificness of its ending. It seemed that unless Sansa was your favorite character the season and series finale really sucked for you. Dany was turned into the mad queen in a split second against her established character, Jamie’s several season redemption was destroyed, Tyrion went from tactically brilliant to stuck on stupid, Arya was used to kill the Night King and then was useless, John Snow had been useless since he was brought back from the dead and Cersei was killed by two bricks…it was rushed and poorly developed and quite frankly complete garbage.

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER

A beloved sitcom that centered around meeting the main character's soul mate. Which we finally get to do in the finale episodes of the finale seasons AND THEN she dies and our main character gets back together with the love interest that we have been shown over and over again is bad for him. So not only did they reduce his “soulmate” and children’s mother to an incubator but his children cheer him on? When they find out that this long ass story wasn’t actually about how much he loved their dead mom it was really about how much he loves their aunt Robin they said “Go get her dad”? As a child with a dead parent…absolutely fucking not.

Of course there are many more shows that ended completely terrible but these are the personal ones that gutted me. The risk you run of getting attached to TV shows…especially long running TV shows is that the show might (and probably will) end terribly.
