Once Upon a Studio

100 years of Magic

What a beautiful short film for the 100th anniversary of Disney. I never thought that 100 years of an iconic studio could be captured in such a short time but this did just that. For many of us, Disney was a core part of our childhood and a very important factor in who we grew up to be.

It was such a simple idea, nothing that complicated with what it was and what it showed, and that is all it needed to be. All it was, was a photo of all the iconic animated characters that we all know and love but that in itself was magical.

The special part of this was the fact that all the characters were in their original animation style. Which was so beautiful to look at towards the end of the short, all the various old school and new school animations together like one big happy family. Just a fantastic nod to all those animators who have worked for Disney over the many years.

Some of the best moments were just witnessing all the various characters acting with each other. Something about that just really captures the magic that is Disney and the wholesome vibes that we are all used to. It was also great that they still included the villains, which are definitely some of the most iconic characters for Disney. They also do not get as much of the spot light as they really should. They are kind of just cast aside in a sense, not much draws light to them outside of their films.

I also just loved the scene with Donald Duck. It just is so perfect to how he is shown through out the years, just impatient and quick to anger. Just really gives a good chuckle to show his annoyance with everything which is just very much in character for him.

The unexpected moment, that I think really touched everyone, even brought tears to most peoples eyes and chocked a lot of people up was that moment with Mickey and the picture of Walt. How this was handled was so elegantly and just so wholesome. The moment where Mickey takes off his hat and looks at his friend who has passed is something I think we all resonate with as we have all felt that after losing a loved one. Just the look that Mickey gives, the solace and almost sadness of someone looking at their loved one who has passed just really hits hard. Like I was shocked at how emotional it made me.

There was so much emotion in that one moment and it was not like it was done in a way that was over done or trying to hard to get those reactions. It was just natural. The simple, "Thanks" that Mickey said is something that every Disney fan I think wants to tell Walt. Because without him, this magic would not be something that has been shared since the 1920s.

It is almost impossible to think of a world, where the comforts of Disney movies don't exists. The joys, the stories, the life lessons that those movies provide us would not be around. The world would be a very different place for sure. And I am not sure what that would look like, but I am glad that is not the case.

After 100 years, a moment of silence, a thank you, and a picture of all the iconic characters from all the Disney movies is the perfect nod and appreciation to a man in a garage with a vision of a mouse that ended up changing childhood for all.
