My Review of "The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers (Season 2)"

It's everything you expect but in an all new setting.

The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers (Season 2) has wrapped up in 2022. I have to admit I did like the first season but I wasn't too sure what was in store for this second season. It took them 2 years for them to come out with this second season afterall. Then again you can't blame them since everyone was going through the pandemic.

The season starts off shortly after the events of the first season. It's kind of odd since all the kids look dramatically older than they did in the first season. At least all of them have returned in this season. That is with the exception of Gordon Bombay. Admittedly this is a huge omission to the season. I know he didn't have a huge role in the first season but he's the glue to the rest of the franchise movies.

In this season Alex brings the young team to a summer hockey camp to help out the kids. She not only wants them to improve in hockey but also have a great time together during the summer. That's so on brand with Alex. As soon as they all arrive to the summer camp Alex realizes it isn't what she had expected.

Instead this turns out to be a very highly regimented camp that is focused on hockey and training. It's owned and headed by Colin Cole. He's an ex-NHL hockey star trying to bring all these potential hockey players to their full potential. To his defense he is actually really good at his job. The problem is that he might be too good at his job.

In focusing on training he kind of lost the connection with his own son at his camp. His son Jace had a very epic failure last season and seems to be going down a dark hole. He's not the only one that's dealing with his own issues.

We see our main character from last year Evan have a little less screen time. Just like in the last season, he wants to focus on getting better at hockey and he believes this hockey camp will bring him to the next level. The problem is that he's going to have to sacrifice his time with his friends to achieve his goals. A small price to pay for a life long goal?

The rest of the characters are pretty much the same characters that we remember from the previous season. This time we add a few new cast members that compliment the original cast so well that you kind of forget who they are. Luckily the don't focus on too many characters or else this show would get too difficult to follow.

Every season they have to have some sort of way to bring our mighty ducks down and figure clever ways out of their situations. That's what we all expect and we get it again in this season. There are even more call backs to previous movies and a few fans of the franchise will get nostalgic for a few things.

The close out of the season even feels somewhat like how a Mighty Ducks movie would have played out. It is very Disneyfied and fans of the series will be okay with this comforting blanket. You're not here to watch them get destroyed.

Overall, it was still a nice time but it was a little rough out of the gates. It took a little more warming up for me this time around but closer to the end I got my warm and fuzzies watching it. I'm sure if you're a fan of the franchise you'll be right at home with this season. That's why I have to give this season a 6.5 out of 10. It's cheesy as heck but that's what you're coming here for.
