My Review of "Shotgun Wedding"

Shotgun Wedding is a Amazon Prime exclusive comedy that has come out in 2023. This movie is geared toward people that like romantic comedies. If you like this genre of movies, most likely you're already interested in watching this movie. Those that aren't into it may find that they like this genre or not like this movie at all.

The movie starts off at a wedding rehearsal. All of the bride and groom's family and friends are gathered to celebrate the night before the big day. Everything is located in the Philippines so it's pretty beautiful. The wife to be, Darcy, is trying to keep everything civil. There seems to be some tension between her divorced parents. Meanwhile the husband to be, Tom, is making finishing touches for their wedding.

They make it aware that somewhere between the engagement and this moment, Tom and Darcy have had a little bit of a communication problem. This doesn't become as clear in the beginning but they throw in nuggets here and there. It becomes more and more clear as the movie goes on.

To make matters worse there are a bunch of weird shenanigans that happen amongst the guests and the in fighting between the family members. The extra tension builds to help exacerbate the stresses between Tom and Darcy.

Then we have the cherry on top of the cake when this whole wedding gets terrorized by pirates who try to extort money from one of the wealthy guests. Now it's up to Tom and Darcy to rekindle their relationship all while fighting off terrorists and saving their family and friends.

It's a very wacky idea and it has tons of potential. For the most part there are a lot of fun scenes. I personally like movies where idiots figure out how to beat out sophisticated big bad guys. This is no different. They played this off pretty well but didn't go overboard. I wonder what this movie would have been like if they went really over the top. Personally I would have really liked it if they really went for broke.

Still it's the charisma and charm of the cast that make this movie shine a little brighter. There are quite a few stars here in this movie and so some the fun comes from knowing who the stars are and playing off of their stereotypes. You know exactly what's going to be happening but yet you still have a bit of fun knowing it will happen.

I think people that enjoy romantic comedies will enjoy this. It's nothing far from the norm and it's somewhat comforting while watching it. Sometimes I feel like professional wrestling and romantic comedies have a lot in common. They're both predictable and zany but yet millions of people stop by to watch them no matter what.

There's nothing really new to separate this to make this one a classic but it is definitely an enjoyable romp for the night that you might want to check this out. The star studded cast will definitely peak some interest for a lot of movie goers. Seeing as it's free for those that already subscribe to Amazon Prime I don't see what the harm would be to watch it.

Overall, I had a fun time watching this one. The movie is decently paced where we don't get annoyed with any specific gag or scene. They get to the point and don't linger on too many things. I would say you should check this out if you like romantic comedies or if you like the stars. That's why I have to give this movie a 6.5 out of 10. I probably won't come back to this one but that's okay.
