My Review of "Saved by the Bell (2021): Season 2"

This show has found its legs really fast. I'm really enjoying it.

Saved by the Bell (2021): Season 2 has finally come out. There's a nice blend of nostalgia, craziness and new spin to keep this on my watch list. The first season was a hoot to watch. They married just enough nostalgia to keep older fans watching while staying fresh with current times. The new roster is filled with an amazingly charismatic roster.

This season is no different. In fact it elevates the series even higher than it did with the first season. The first season was more of an introduction to all of the characters. It was a very short season and this season is just as short. I kind of wished they'd have more episodes because they had me yearning for more.

In this season they added a few more characters to the mix. You'd think that these new characters would be lost in the mix of an already stacked roster of characters on the show but they aren't. Each one of these characters are so different from one another and I love that about this show. You have such a diverse set of perspectives.

They've added Gil a love interest for our lead character Daisy. Then we have Chloe, a manic pixie lesbian. Finally, Devante gets a girlfriend named Nadia. They are all supporting characters but even though this show is quite short they still get enough airtime for us to learn who they are. They're also integral characters that I can foresee being recurring roles in future seasons.

With the introductions out of the way in season one we now have more established characters. This season dives into their relationships with one another. It's sort of becoming more of a small soap opera this season but with enough humor to make us forget it.

Obviously Jessie and Slater being former love interests in the older show will have some tension in this season. Jessie just had a divorce in season one and things might be a little rough for her.

I'm loving the amount of screen time they have with the old cast in this franchise. They are added just to add a little more fire to compliment the new cast. Boy do the new cast really kill it too. The casting of this series was really well done.

It's like you want all of them as your friends. Even the mean characters like Mack and Lexi have such a wonderfully colorful quality to them that you root for their evil schemes. They really make you feel like you're watching your best friends on screen and that's a very tough formula to create.

We also have more of a continuous story in this season whereas in the first season you could probably watch each episode without any other episodes for context. In this season they focused on the rivalry of Bayside and Valley. This was often a subject matter for the old series but this new reboot does a very good job at making everything even wackier.

I love their wacky sense of humor. It's a different wackiness that you don't find in other comedies. Their wackiness is almost bordering dad joke humor at times and I love it. It's this humor that they sprinkle throughout the show that keeps me coming back.

Though with the new relationships forming I can kind of tell that the show will start to take on a more serious tone later on. They'll have heartbreak and tragedy like the older series but I hope they don't forget what made the show so fantastic in the beginning.

Overall, I love the fact that they've been able to elevate their show to a new level with this season. I really look forward to seeing the next season but I really want them to make a longer season. I have to give this season a 9 out of 10. If you still haven't started watching this series what are you waiting for? It's probably one of the best new comedies I've seen in a while.
