My Review of "Nobody"

This movie is similar to John Wick if John Wick had a wife and kids.

Nobody came out early in 2021. There was a little bit of buzz about this movie because it was said to be similar to the John Wick series. I particularly like the John Wick series but I don't know why I didn't check it out when it first came out. Now later on in the year I realize what everyone was talking about.

The movie starts off with our hero Hutch apprehended by the police for questioning. He doesn't look the best as he's got cuts and bruises all over him. As he's being questioned by the authorities he's tending to a little kitten without a care in the world. When they ask him who he is the movie goes into a flashback.

It goes all the way back to his usual daily routine. He goes to work and does all of his casual duties as the father of his household. These sequences make us relate more to Hutch as he takes the bus to work everyday, he misses garbage days and he makes breakfast for the family. You already know there's something inside him that needs to awaken. Through this series of monotonous montages you'll see that he's really done with his life. There doesn't seem to be any satisfaction in his life.

That is until there's a break-in at his house. We all saw the commercials so we assume he's going to kill these perpetrators. Surprisingly he restrains himself even though his son tries to help catch the thieves. I start wondering why he would just let them go but he does have good reason to.

The major moral to the story in this movie is that every action has consequences. When Hutch eventually unleashes his inner bad ass you see that there are some repercussions to his actions. In those repercussions the bad guys also eventually find out there are consequences to their actions as well. You just never know what anyone is capable of.

Hutch looks like a mild mannered father but really there's so much more to his story than meets the eye. As the movie progresses it obviously reveals who Hutch really is and I can see the major similarities with John Wick at this point.

There are a number of differences too though. Hutch has a family that he takes care of, John isn't really accountable for anyone. The assassin codes of conduct aren't explored in this one because Hutch isn't an assassin. There are rules to the game but they're pretty lofty. They're more like unwritten rules that people may or may not know.

I like the element of family in this movie but there's a certain character that shows up in this movie that felt a little abrupt. There's clues as to their existence but when they show up I felt that they could have played it up a little bit more or put a little more story into it.

As with movies similar to this one the action sequences are incredibly brutal. I squinted a few times when watching some of the absolutely outrageous fight scenes. Although they're over the top they do have an element of believability to them. Not a lot of believability but there is some nonetheless and that's what makes the fight scenes that much better. They are extremely well choreographed and filmed. You'll understand exactly what is going on in each of these fast paced scenes.

Overall, this movie goes a mile a minute after Hutch sheds his sheep clothing. He's physical tour de force when he starts beating these bad guys up. If you're into violent action movies you need not look any further. This is the movie you've been waiting for. I have to give this movie an 8 out of 10. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will be recommending it to all of my friends.
