My Review of "Friends: The Reunion"

A blast from the past and a sneak peak as to how it was created.

Friends: The Reunion can't really be called a niche episode because I'm pretty sure most have the world has heard and seen at least an episode of Friends. This eye opening reunion is more than just a walk down memory lane. It's also an interesting look inside how the show was made and a look into the actors that portrayed the iconic characters.

The reunion starts off with David Schwimmer who plays the role of Ross on the TV show. He walks in and instantly you can see he's looking around as if he's discovered a time capsule. Soon Lisa Kudrow who plays Pheobe follows suit. Jennifer Aniston who plays Rachel instantly falls to tears when she's met with her old colleagues and set pieces.

Then we see Matt Leblanc who plays Joey. I found Matt seems like the everyday kind of guy out of the whole bunch. His demeanor is the most relatable to me of the bunch during the reunion. Following Matt is Courtney Cox who plays Monica. She looks overwhelmed by the whole situation as well. Finally we have Matthew Perry who plays Chandler. He seemed to kind of be at odds about the whole thing but was a good sport about the whole thing.

To see all of their reactions on the set and their stories behind the episodes you can see how all of these actors for the most part had a great time making the show. They talked about the joys of the show and some of the downsides. There was even talk about some moments that viewers weren't privy to. It was nice to hear some of these stories and it gave us some more interest in re-watching some of the old episodes they're talking about.

This episode actually shows us how blooper reels are done correctly. The actors would give us some extra context into why they were laughing. Usually blooper reels show an actor goofing or laughing but there's no context but in this episode the reason behind their bursts of laughter make sense. It makes things even more funny when you understand some of the backstory.

One of the big elements of this episode was the origins of the actors and how they came to be their iconic characters. The creators helped guide the story along to describe why each of the actors were handpicked for the show and some of the trials and tribulations they had to go through to get them.

Another interesting aspect is the affects of this show had on not only the cast of the show but for the people watching it. We had a number of celebrity cameos here to help give the episode some life. They went back to some of the older guests that were there and some newer celebrities came to show them some love as well.

All of this eventually leads up to the closing of the show where we are treated to stories of what happened during the airing of the series finale. How all of them felt on that last show and how each of them were affects. It's very reminiscent of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reunion. Some of the scenes are emotional especially for those that have followed the show for all 10 seasons.

I would say that this show brought back a lot of memories. Admittingly, I don't remember watching every episode of the show but I do remember all of the episodes that they were referring to throughout the reunion. I was surprised that I could keep up with everything that they were talking about. It made me appreciate a lot of the work that they did on the show.

However, I did find that all of these actors had a lot of their own real life personalities in their show characters. There are elements in their real personalities where I was doing double takes. It's probably because I associate their looks to the characters of the show. Still all of the actors were quite amicable and pleasant. It's kind of a toss up in the air if I believe that all of them are good friends outside of the show.

This episode definitely highlights a lot of the hard work that came into doing their TV shows. Things can happen out of the blue and they have to fly by the seat of their pants to create episodes.

Overall, I really enjoyed this reunion and I know fans of the TV series will as well. If you're a fan you have to see this reunion, it's a no brainer but for those that haven't seen the series (I hardly think that there are many) you should check the show out first before watching this. I have to give this reunion episode an 8 out of 10. Very fun stuff with heapings of nostalgia.
