My Review of "Bodies Bodies Bodies"

A modern take on the thriller/slasher film. It's actually pretty good.

Bodies Bodies Bodies is a thriller/slasher film that came out in 2022. I loved the premise of this movie but I never got around to watching it. It's not necessarily my taste in movies but the concept of the movie was irresistible. To my surprise it was a lot more entertaining than I had expected.

The movie starts out with the introduction of Sophie and Bee. They're two young women that have are in the early stages of their relationship. Bee comes from humble beginnings and Sophie is well off. Though the two seem to have close affections for one another. Still there is something off about the two. Sophie seems to be more into the relationship than Bee. While Bee seems to be hiding something.

There's a huge hurricane or some kind of storm heading their way and Sophie wants to take Bee to see her old friends. As Sophie is well off so are the rest of her friends. They all meet at a giant mansion belonging to Sophie's best friend David.

Things start to get even more off when it seems as though Sophie had invited herself to this storm party. Apparently they group of friends haven't really been communicating with Sophie for some time. Sophie has been going through some substance abuse problems and had shut herself off from these friends.

Immediately, we see why Sophie had shut herself from these friends. They're all doing drugs and living their best lives without a care in the world. They're also quite narcissistic but highly aware of their surroundings. Each one of them has baggage that they are ready to offload to the rest of them.

As the movie progresses we see nuances between each of their relationships. It's actually quite interesting as the layers keep peeling away and we learn who likes who and why they like them. Jealousy quickly becomes a big factor in this movie and it's the prime motivator for the insanity that comes later in the movie.

It's all catalyzed when they start to play an innocent game called bodies bodies bodies that this movie really goes crazy. It's basically a murder mystery game where the group has to find out who the fake murderer is. Everything goes sideways when they find out David actually gets actually murdered.

I love the tension in this movie. It's to the point that it's fun and you want more. I hate the thriller movies where you just want to shut off the movie because it's just too intense. For those that aren't totally into this type of genre it's acceptable that you can enjoy it. You will be gripping your seat as the girls turn each corner when they traverse the haunted mansion.

The motivations of each of the characters was quite well done too. I thought that each of the characters were quite distinct and they brought a lot of life to the movie. Of course I didn't like a lot of the characters but in this genre of movie that's not too bad because you just don't know who's going to die next.

Violence is scaled back but there are some gruesome scenes. It's not an in your face violent movie. They do cut away from really gross sequences but you do see some of the aftermath of these violent situations.

Overall, I had a great time with this one. I thought it was great fun and very interesting because it is a very modern take on slasher movies. They have modern problems and modern dialogue to go with that. Some might get turned off by that but I thought it's warranted in this day in age. I have go give this movie a 7 out of 10. If it can impress me I think anyone can enjoy this one as well.
