“Minions: The Rise of Gru” is a new addition to the Despicable Me Universe and takes place in 1976. It has all the elements to cater to the less mature aspects of our sensibilities, with afros and ‘70’s era fashions, badass women in action, awful puns and wordplay, and disco music. The minions, those yellow, pill-shaped purveyors of trouble who are hopelessly devoted to Gru (Steve Carell), are back to support the “eleven and three-quarters” years old version of Gru.

Gru is fantasizing about joining The Vicious 6, an Avengers-like conglomerate of villains created by Wild Knuckles (Alan Arkin). The Vicious 6 are there to retrieve a necklace of gems called The Zodiac Stones. Once retrieved, it will give the Vicious 6 an unlimited amount of power on the night of the Chinese New Year. However, Wild Knuckles is betrayed by team member Belle Bottom (Taraji P. Henson), and Gru steals the Zodiac Stones. The Vicious 6 are looking for a much younger replacement, and Gru applies for the position. Gru is kidnapped by Wild Knuckles, and the Minions learn kung fu from Master Chow (Michelle Yeoh) in order to save him. “Minions: The Rise of Gru” moves at breakneck speed and has all the humor and fun that fans of the franchise will love.

Pace and is jam-packed with action, humor, and heart. The animation is top-notch, and the character designs are imaginative and appealing. The voice acting is also impressive, with each actor bringing their own unique style to their respective roles.

The animation is outstanding, especially the landscapes and the recreation of the 70s. The tykes going all puppy-eyed and being the mad hatters that they are make the movie a complete laugh riot. It’s an entertaining watch for kids as well as adults. Too ‘grud’ to miss.

One of the standout elements of the film is the soundtrack. As mentioned earlier, the use of disco music throughout the film is a fun and fitting choice, and there are also some great original songs that add to the overall enjoyment of the movie.

All in all, “Minions: The Rise of Gru” is a fun and entertaining addition to the Despicable Me Universe. While it may not be the most sophisticated film out there, it certainly knows how to cater to its target audience and provide them with plenty of laughs and excitement. Whether you're a fan of the Minions or just looking for a lighthearted, action-packed comedy, this film is definitely worth checking out.

In conclusion, "Minions: The Rise of Gru" delivers on its promise to cater to the more childish and irreverent aspects of humor. Set in the 70s, the film showcases the era's iconic fashion, music, and culture, making it a nostalgic trip down memory lane for those who lived through that period. The Vicious 6, a group of villainous misfits with hilarious pun-based names, adds to the film's humorous appeal. The Minions, as always, provide their brand of comic relief and create chaos wherever they go.

Despite having multiple plot threads, the film's pacing keeps the audience engaged, and the voice acting, led by Steve Carell, Taraji P. Henson, and Michelle Yeoh, is excellent. "Minions: The Rise of Gru" is a worthy addition to the "Despicable Me" franchise, and fans of the series and those who enjoy slapstick humor will find plenty to laugh at in this latest installment.

Minions: The Rise of Gru Story: Gru is a notorious 11-year-old schoolkid from the 1970s, who aspires to become a supervillain, and interviews with the Vicious 6 to replace their now-ousted leader, Wild Knuckles. Rejected and ridiculed by the evil gang, he steals their ancient amulet, which is their big-ticket to becoming indestructible supervillains when its powers are activated at Chinese New Year’s midnight. He’s chased by the Vicious 6 and Wild Knuckles for the stone, as his stooges Stuart, Bob, Kevin and Otto set out to save their Mini Boss.
