YA author Becky Albertali has been a pretty big hit in the literature community. As well as writing a string of novels with diverse and LGBTQ characters at the centre, her debut novel "Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda" was adapted into a successful movie Love Simon in 2018.
Her solo works have earned the nickname of the Simonverse books - as in each book is set within the same universe. Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda/Love Simon focuses on Simon, coming to terms with his sexuality and falling in love with his mysterious pen pal online, Upside of Unrequited picks up a few months after and tells the story of Simon's friend Abby's cousin who deals with her own issues of unrequited feelings and Leah on the Offbeat picks up in senior year with Leah taking centre stage and falling for the last person she'd expect.
A lot of readers and even the author thought Leah's story was the end of this franchise, but nope. there's more! A short novella will explore the original Creekwood cast's first year of university. Read the official synopsis and see the cover below:
Fall in love all over again with the characters from the bestselling Simonverse novels in this highly anticipated epilogue novella. Perfect for fans of Becky Albertalli, the movie Love, Simon, and the new Hulu series spin-off, Love, Victor!
It's been more than a year since Simon and Blue turned their anonymous online flirtation into an IRL relationship, and just a few months since Abby and Leah's unforgettable night at senior prom.
Now the Creekwood High crew are first years at different colleges, navigating friendship and romance the way their story began--on email.
LOVE, CREEKWOOD, a Simonverse novella, releases in the US from @harpercollins/ @balzerandbray on 6/30/20 in hardcover, e-book, and audio. No info yet on international availability yet, but hopefully that'll follow soon.
Albertali also plans to donate 100% of her English language royalty advance to @trevorproject, the leading national organisation providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ) young people under 25.
In her Facebook announcement, Albertali said on her new book and the Trevor Project:
It’s about a third of the length of a Simonverse book, all emails, and it’s set during the gang’s first year of college (after Leah on the Offbeat, before Love, Victor). DEFINITELY contains spoilers for Simon and Leah’s books. Also contains: shenanigans, exclamation points, yearning, Drunk Simon, Nostalgic Blue, Finals Week Abby, Valentine’s Day Leah, big decisions, and MUCH talk of kissing.
It’s hard to explain how important the Trevor Project is to me. Not being able to directly help teens in crisis was the hardest part of going from psychologist to author. Trevor does the work that I can’t, and they do it with such thoughtfulness, care, and commitment to research-based best practices. They offer internationally accessible online resources and communities for LGBTQ young people, and they have saved *many* of my readers’ lives. And, as I’m sure you can imagine, there’s been a huge spike in the volume of crisis calls due to COVID19 and its specific impact on LGBTQ youth.
The new book is set to be released at the end of June, but not before a special announcement for her readers on her next live with @epicreads on Friday, 4/24 at 4:00pm ET and to also answer your questions.
