So bad it's good
Hear me out -- I can’t be the only person who enjoys a good bad movie. Call it whatever you want: a distraction, comedic relief or some kind of self-loathing punishment -- bad is not the antonym of entertaining. Now, this comes in a variety of forms, from the nostalgia-inducing teen dramedies that you swore were cinematic gold when you first saw them, to the mind-numbing delights that provide nothing more than comedic escapism. And we obviously can’t let reality TV sit this one out.
If You Like Twin Peaks, You’ll Also Like Haven
When choosing something to watch on tv, many viewers seem to make a decision based upon what type of genre they want to be entertained by at that moment. Have they had a stressful day and want some comedy to uplift their spirits? Are they feeling melancholy and want a good drama to match their mood? Is it Halloween where scary horror movies might be needed to increase the feel of the holiday? Is it Valentine’s Day with no date where a satirical romance might help lighten the day? Or are they stuck at home during a pandemic and in need of some serious binge watching that covers many tv genres to keep them glued to the screen so they can forget about what’s happening in the real world, at least for a little while?

Victoria BlitzPublished 3 years ago in GeeksIf The Best Man, Then Friends from College
People love to make grand generalized statements about the higher learning experience. College is a conundrum. It is never internalized the same from generation to generation or from one student to the next. The Best Man and Friends from College are hilarious depictions of people who have met lifelong friends in college and those who should probably distance themselves from their college tribe. It would be easier if these groups of friends named themselves like the Flossy Posse in Girls Trip or the Goonies, or Divas like Will’s mother and aunts in the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Alas, they do not, so you will see the word friend a lot.
Jada FergusonPublished 3 years ago in GeeksIs It Really "More Than a Feeling?"
In 2020, TV became more than just background noise or an escape after a long workday. Streaming became a window to pre-pandemic life. Travel plans were nixed, concerts postponed, family holidays cancelled. To survive, we had to socially distance and mask-up, unable to even smile at a stranger while passing them in the grocery store. It’s been an incredibly isolating time, and for many, the only “people” allowed into their homes were the characters on a show or movie. We invited Moira and David Rose to dinner, Michael Scott was our boss, we went out at night with Carrie and Samantha. My friends and I turned first to these familiar shows in an attempt at some consistency in our lives—"Seinfeld", "The Office", "Parks and Rec", "Sex and the City".

Finding a new movie or series to watch after finishing one almost seems impossible after devoting your time and emotions into a story. I most definitely felt this way after watching the newly released Zack Snyder’s Justice League. After years of anticipation, starting with just the tease of an idea and with the help of an audience, Zack Snyder was finally able to work on and release his version of the Justice League. The Snyder Cut is the perfect resurrection and restoration of the Justice League after having to endure the Joss Whedon’s 2017 Justice League, in which was full of boredom and CGI so bad that I had to cover my cat’s eyes so she didn’t have to watch the horror that was Superman’s CGI’d upper lip. I still get chills just thinking about it.

Long ago, when DVD’s and VHS tapes roamed the earth and Netflix was still a mail-order service, I moved to a new city for a job doing something I really loved. I was just starting out on the journey we call adulthood – which at the time, I thought of as a destination – and I was determined to make the most of what I believed adulthood should be: A life propelled by the thrill of charting my own course, by the near-certainty that great things were just around the corner and the endless possibility of a city and its millions of people.

Wild landscapes and constrained behaviours: Westworld vs The Crown
As a librarian I am very accustomed to making recommendations, whether solicited or not, whether welcome or not. I love the conversation, the questioning. It’s not unlike choosing a restaurant meal. What do you feel like? What mood are you in? Would you like to be adventurous or safe? Books, movies, songs, cuisine, the same process applies. Do you go off piste or do you take the well travelled path, the familiar flavours or foreign food, the well-thumbed or freshly cracked spine?

When it comes to these fantastic comic originating TV animations you can tell that the apple didn’t fall far from the tree. It’s hard to believe at points that these shows are originally aimed for children; their exploration of character development delves deeply into the psychology of their protagonists to the point it becomes questioningly psychological thrillers.
