James Gunn Teases More GOTG But With Different Cast And Crew

What Will It Be About, And Who Will Be In It?

We all know James Gunn as the director of Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Even though the third film is currently filming, there is already talk about a fourth film that James Gunn hinted at in response to a fan question on Twitter. It is not out of the realm of possibilities, considering both Thor and Spider-Man will be getting fourth movies. James Gunn has teased that it is possible, but not with the current cast.

Guardians of the Galaxy started back in 2014 and has become one of Marvel’s most expansive stories when it comes to characters. We last saw them in Avengers: Endgame. The current team will appear in Thor: Love and Thunder, and Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which is set to come out before the third movie. Groot will have his own spotlight in his Disney+ animated special I am Groot. If a fourth movie were to happen, it probably would not be announced until after the third movie comes out, which won’t be for a while. After all, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is scheduled for a May 2023 release date.

Gunn has implied that the fourth hypothetical Guardians movie would have a different cast of characters. Dave Bautista has also gone as far to say that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be Drax’s last movie. So who could appear in the fourth Guardians film, if there was one?

Adam Warlock would most likely be the new leader of the crew as we saw him at the end of Guardians 2. It is unclear who he would recruit to his team. However, there are some clues if we were to look back at the comics to see who he has teamed up with in the past. A likely possibility is Star-Lord, Quasar, Nova, Rocket, and Wraith. We could see the fourth film introducing new characters like Quasar, Nova, and Wraith to the team.

Another possibility is Gamora, Nebula, Groot, Mantis, and Star-Lord joining up with another group to continue their adventures. The actors portraying these characters have not confirmed that Guardians 3 will be their last movie, so they could all appear in a fourth movie. Instead of Adam Warlock leading a whole new team, we could see him leading characters we already know with Star-Lord taking a step back.

A third possibility would be Stakar (played by Sylvester Stallone), who we saw in the post-credits scene of Guardians 2. In the comics, Starhawk (or Stakar) and his team consisting of Aleta Ogord, Vance Astro, Nikki, Yondu, and Martinex was the first iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy. James Gunn has also pointed out that he wants Stallone to play a pivotal part in the MCU, so this could be the way to do it. Since this team was originally teased in Guardians 2, there is a possibility we may get to know them better in Guardians 3.

Anything is possible with Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we have seen with Spider-Man: No Way Home and the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. I would not be surprised if we get a fourth Guardians movie with new characters. Personally, I am leaning towards Adam Warlock leading a new team especially since he is supposed to be in Guardians 3. However, I also enjoy the idea of having a team we were briefly introduced to in Guardians 2 led by Sylvester Stallone’s Stakar. This option would also be a nice throwback to the comics and the original Guardians. The only thing we can do now is speculate about the future: will there be a fourth movie, what it will be about, and who will be in it.
